<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>February 6, 2007 -- The Jets are the kings of New York football in the eyes of Las Vegas odds makers.MGM Mirage has Gang Green as a 25-1 shot to win next year's Super Bowl, ahead of the Giants at 30-1. The odds represent the remarkable turnaround in the perception of the two teams over the last six months. Entering last season, the Jets were the longest of long shots at 100-1, and the Giants one of the favorites in the NFC at 15-1.Both teams made the playoffs this year, but the Jets were the ones who appear to have the promising future while the Tiki Barber-less Giants don't have many believers."The reality is that the Jets look like they're on the upswing even though they're in the tougher conference and the Giants, I don't know if downswing is the right word, but there are some question marks," said Robert Walker, the race and sports book director at MGM Mirage. "We realize they have a ton of talent, but how many years are you going to say that with Eli [Manning]? They've got to get over the hump."The Chargers and the newly crowned Colts are the co-favorites to win Super Bowl XLII at odds of 11 to 2. The Bears are the favorite in the NFC at 6 to 1.The odds on the Jets signify the pressure Eric Mangini faces in his sophomore season. The Jets will no longer sneak up on people. The young coach was one of the many question marks surrounding the Jets entering last year. He showed that he could coach, guiding the Jets to a 10-6 record and a Wild Card berth."They were really surprising this year," Walker said. "Last year, there were a lot of questions with the Jets - Chad Pennington and the new coaching staff, specifically."The Giants surprised in the opposite way. Big Blue had the fourth-best odds among NFC teams entering the season. After winning five straight games, they were 6-2 in November."I thought the Giants were the best team in the NFC at one point," Walker said. The team collapsed, going 2-6 the rest of the way before losing the Eagles in the opening round of the playoffs. Barber retired to begin his TV career and questions surrounded head coach Tom Coughlin and his control of the locker room."They had all that perceived infighting," Walker said. "I don't know that bodes well for next year. If you have the same cast of characters with the infighting, that doesn't bode well. Tiki retiring in his prime hurts. I like the other back [Brandon Jacobs], but how many players are as good as Tiki Barber?"The other thing hurting the Giants is playing in the NFC. At the moment, the AFC is viewed as the stronger conference. Walker said he thinks the Giants' path to the Super Bowl may be easier than the Jets' but once they got to the big game they would almost certainly be underdogs. The AFC has won the last four Super Bowls and eight of the last 10."I think the AFC is so talented it's going to be a scramble," Walker said. The Colts, coming off Sunday's 29-17 victory over the Bears, are co-favorites with the Chargers but were not impressive enough to suggest a dominating dynasty is beginning."I think they're good, but I definitely think they're aging," Walker said. "I thought the window of opportunity is diminishing for them."The Texans, Browns and Raiders are the biggest long shots on the board, each at 100 to 1.</div>
