Bollinger is named the starting quarterback this week vs Panthers!http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AtH4...ov=ap&type=lgns<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- Vinny Testaverde and Wayne Chrebet have shared some pretty good times with the New York Jets. But those seem as far away as a trip to the playoffs. In another bizarre twist to an already strange season, their time together may have come to an end Sunday.Chrebet is out for the season after sustaining another concussion in a loss to San Diego, and his career is almost certainly over. Meanwhile, Testaverde is out as the starting quarterback thanks to a strained right calf, leaving Brooks Bollinger in command for Sunday's game at Carolina. Testaverde, who turns 42 Sunday, realizes he might not play again this season. What Chrebet will do is unclear. The 11-year veteran underwent more tests Monday after hitting his head hard on the turf, at least the ninth concussion he has sustained in his college and pro careers. His agent, Art Weiss, said Chrebet will await the test results before deciding on his future. Chrebet is married with two young boys.``Once he gets the results of his evaluation, Wayne is going to discuss his football future with his family, and then make his decision public,'' the statement said. One thing is certain: Testaverde sympathizes with Chrebet, who must make a decision on his future.``Not speaking for Wayne, but sometimes you come to the realization yourself that, 'It's time. I've had a great career, nothing wrong with hanging it up, walking away. Nothing to be ashamed of, you have a lot to be proud of. Life goes on,''' Testaverde said. ``That's what we all want, we want life to continue. We want to be functional, be able to watch our kids grow and play with them.''Chrebet came to the Jets as a plucky undrafted free agent out of Hofstra and became a local hero. Though 5-foot-10, Chrebet showed a toughness that earned him a place in Jets lore. He never shied away from taking the big hit, and he always made the big third-down catch. That is exactly how he got hurt. With Bollinger rallying the Jets late in the fourth quarter, Chrebet made 6 yards on a third-and-5 with less than 2 minutes to play. But his head violently hit the turf, and television replays appeared to show that Chrebet lost consciousness at least for a few seconds. In the locker room, he needed help taking off his uniform.``There's a lot worse things that can happen in life than having to retire because you're injured,'' Testaverde said. ``It would be nice if we could go out on our own terms, but that's not the way it is, especially in the NFL. We all don't get to choose when we retire.''Chrebet has been in this spot before, but he has always decided to keep playing. He has 15 catches for 153 yards this season, and his 580 receptions rank him second to Don Maynard's 627 on the team's career list.``All of the obstacles that he went through to get here, all of the naysayers saying he was too small, wasn't fast enough, he never bought into that,'' coach Herman Edwards said. ``He's the type of guy you like playing games with because you know he's going to give you everything he has.''Chrebet's injury was the latest in what is turning into a long season for the Jets (2-6). Starting tight end Chris Baker also is out for the year with a broken left ankle, making it five key offensive players on injured reserve. That doesn't count key backups Jay Fiedler (shoulder) or running back Derrick Blaylock (foot), also out for an extended period. As for Testaverde, his 19-year career might be coming to a close, too. Signed off his couch when Chad Pennington and Fiedler were injured, he started four games before giving way to Bollinger late in the third quarter against San Diego because his calf tightened up.When asked whether that game was his last of the season, Testaverde said, ``It very well could be. When I came back I wasn't looking past this year. This is a bonus for me. I just wish it would have turned out a little better.''Bollinger put together an inspired effort, rallying the Jets from a 28-13 deficit. With one final chance to win the game, his fourth-down pass to Justin McCareins was batted down and San Diego held on for a 31-26 victory.``Every time I can go out there and show those guys that I can function out there, it's going to breed confidence in them, and that's a big part of being a quarterback,'' Bollinger said. ``They can't believe in you until you go do it.''</div>
Bollinger right now gives the Jets the best chance of winning, as slim as that chance is. The injuries keep piling up and we hit the 6 loss mark which means were probably playing for next season, so lets get Brooks some experiance and see if he has what it takes to be a future QB.I think their overplaying Vinnys injury in respect to him, but Brooks has outplayed Vinny and deserves his chance.
