For Jets fans frothing at the bit after watching last night's drubbing of the Eagles in their preseason finale at Lincoln Financial Field, we offer this advice: Enjoy the moments from the 37-14 win . . . and then hose yourself and come back to reality. For Jets owner Woody Johnson, who according to a published report from the hardscrabble streets of the Hamptons was overheard at a social function saying that he was considering selling the team (he vehemently denied it last night), how could you even fathom the thought after watching your juggernaut in action last night? But, seriously, Jets fans and Johnson have much to look forward to once the real season begins Sept. 11 in Kansas City. "Now it starts for real for us," Herman Edwards said. Said Chad Pennington, "We don't have a grace period anymore. It's for real now and we've got to go ? hard and fast." Last night couldn't really be considered a dress rehearsal since they had their starters in for only one series on both sides of the ball, and the Eagles didn't play any of their starters. Curtis Martin didn't play a down, nor did three key starters on defense ? CB Ty Law, DE Shaun Ellis and DT Dewayne Robertson, along with recent camp arrival, DE John Abraham. The Jets, who finished the preseason 3-1, expect to be whole when they travel to Kansas City next week. The best thing that came out of last night for the Jets was the look they got at rookie kicker Mike Nugent, who entered the game having attempted only one field goal this preseason. Nugent was successful on FGs of 48, 35 and 33 yards. "I was praying he'd make that first one because you [media]guys would have been all over him," Pennington said. The Jets' first preseason game was a showcase of the defense, which shut the Lions' offense down and allowed only three points in a 10-3 win. Their second game was all about Pennington and his return to game conditions. The Jets got Pennington's confidence on a roll with a near-flawless 9-of-10 passing performance en route to a win over Minnesota. Last week against the Giants, the theme was about getting Martin some carries and into a rhythm. The Jets did that, though they lost an ugly, mistake-filled game along the way. The Jets went into last night quietly hoping to see their top draft pick, Nugent, tested for the first time this summer. "It was important that Mike get to kick those field goals," Edwards said. "Our mindset was to get into field-goal position and let him kick some field goals." His 48-yarder gave the Jets a 10-0 lead, his 35-yarder gave them a 13-0 lead and his 33-yarder made it 37-14. Pennington, in his one series, looked sharp, completing all three of his passes for 27 yards en route to an opening-series touchdown drive, capped by Derrick Blaylock's 5-yard scoring run. "We couldn't go 3-and-out on that first series; that was not going to be tolerated," Edwards said. "I'm excited," said Pennington. "Monday can't get here fast enough so I can get in there, get in the game and really focus on Kansas City."</div>

He was like half the size and just took the player out.
