Jets Sign Rookie LB Kinney, Waive K BeitiaThe New York Jets announced Wednesday that the Club has claimed rookie linebacker James Kinney off of waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars and waived rookie kicker Xavier Beitia. The announcements were made by Jets? Executive Vice President and General Manager Terry Bradway.Kinney, who was waived by the Jaguars on Aug. 22, is a rookie free agent from Missouri. The 6-1, 244-pound native of Chicago owns the Missouri school record for most career tackles with 463 stops after playing in 47 collegiate games and starting 38 of the contests. Kinney signed with the Jaguars following the 2005 Draft. Beitia, a 5-10, 198-pound kicker from Florida State, signed with the Jets an undrafted rookie free agent on April 28, 2005. He led the Seminoles in scoring the past four seasons (2001-2004) and made 67-of-92 of his field goals (72.8 %) and connected on 173-of-177 extra points (97.7%) on the collegiate level. The native of Tampa, FL attended the acclaimed Jesuit High School before matriculating to Florida State.James Kinney LB 6-1, 244 Missouri Could project to outside linebacker in the pros...Has all the physical tools you look for except height and also earns top marks for his intangibles.Strengths: Has a solid, squatty build...Excellent leader and team captain...Works hard...Very smart with great instincts...Has a motor that never stops...Excellent speed...Great athletic ability...Has the range to make plays sideline-to-sideline. Weaknesses: On the short side...Needs to hit the weight room and get stronger...Doesn't shed blocks well and will have trouble if he is locked onto

Why did we sign Beitia in the first place? He was Mr. Wide Left for Florida State. As for James Kinney, i see him playing in place of McClover as a backup. Nothing overly special, but hell get the job done.
