Jets To Move Training Camp?

The New York Jets are contemplating moving their training camp to upstate New York, according to Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News.

Although the Jets have deluxe $75 million digs in New Jersey, their new training complex lacks dormitories to house the players and bleachers for fans.

So, the Jets could be shifting their camp up north. The proposed move isn’t winning Jets owner Woody Johnson many compliments.

“First, he upsets the Long Island fan base by taking the team out of Hofstra, then he institutes a ridiculous PSL system that angers all ticket holders, and now he’s ticking off the New Jersey fan base before it has a chance to have a training camp in its backyard,” Cimini writes. “I don’t get it.”

Of course, there’s another reason why the Jets may move their camp.

New Jets coach Rex Ryan’s father, Buddy Ryan, was on the Jets staff during the Joe Namath era where the team practiced at a reportedly “crummy facility” in Peekskill, N.Y.

And Rex Ryan is considered a throwback to the old days when many coaches liked to take their team to an isolated area for camp to build chemistry.
