Despite three straight seasons out of the playoffs, Rex Ryan was granted a reprieve and will return to the New York Jets in 2014, owner Woody Johnson announced Sunday after his team's 20-7 victory against the Dolphins. Johnson refused to reveal details of Ryan's contract situation. His pre-existing contract, worth about $3 million per year, runs through 2014. It would be unorthodox to return without an extension. That would make Ryan a lame duck, creating a season-long distraction, but the organization was thought to be pushing that scenario in negotiations.
