Unrestricted free agent Jimmer Fredette signed a training camp deal to join the San Antonio Spurs and earn a chance to make their regular-season roster. Fredette struggled to emerge with the Pelicans last season as a backup guard. He played in 50 games last season and averaged 3.6 points. Fredette made only 9-of-48 shots from 3-point range for 18.8 percent. He didn't get off the bench for the entire first-round playoff series against the Golden State Warriors. In former Pelicans coach Monty Williams' system, Fredette rarely got an opportunity to come off screens to get shot attempts from the perimeter on set plays. As an unrestricted free agent, Fredette was expected to pursue a team where he could have a better opportunity to make an impact. Although Alvin Gentry was hired to replace Williams, the Pelicans showed no interest to re-sign Fredette. The Spurs rely on ball movement, spacing and screens set on the perimeter to free up their shooters, which better fits Fredette's style of play. From the field, Fredette made only 38.8 percent of his shots. - See more at:http://www.nola.com/pelicans/index.ssf/2015/07/jimmer_fredette_finalizing_tra.html
