http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2441034 Going out on a high note, given he had a 1000 yard season last year. Interesting, though, that he didn't tell the team until after the draft. Had his timing been better, the Jags might have even gotten in on the Javon Walker sweepstakes. Any chance he changes his mind? The team is asking him to reconsider...
That sucks. But they've been preparing for this already if you look at their last 3 first round picks; WR, Reggie Williams, WR/TE,Matt Jones & TE, Marcedes Lewis.
Heres a conspiracy theory for you...and this is purely speculative....Jimmy Smith is very high up in the drug program and another positive would result in a ban of no less than 1 year....if he tested positive, we wouldnt know because its all confidential and if he walks away, we would never know....it just seems suspicious to me that he walked away after a productive season and decided after the draft....
Its sad to see him go. Chris McAllister said it best "Jimmy Smith is the hardest man i have ever had to cover. His out looks like a deep route, his hitch looks like a deep route, his 7 looked likes a deep route." Jimmy Smith was a great reciever and its sad to see him go.
That would suck to retire man. But why did everyone make Favre so big and not Smith to? This is a starting WR.
Favre dragged his out, Smith just decided an didn't even really ponder it. He's also not the media figure Favre is.

Hall of Fame or not is the question. I think he'll have a wait for sure. Tim Brown Jerry Rice ART MONK! and Michael Irvin all should get in before him.

Beef, beating me to the punch regarding a conspiracy? Shame on you? LOL.
A statistic from SI's Peter King: "Jimmy Smith caught 526 more footballs than Lynn Swann, for 6,825 more yards. Unfortunately for the retiring Jaguar, that sentence will probably be as close as Smith will come to sharing immortality with Swann, who is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame."

But not that smith doesnt get in, but that swan gets taken out, and smith put in.
Swann's induction into the HOF just goes to show how highly regarded championship rings are to the selection process. Statistically, he probably doesn't deserve to be there. But his "style" and his four rings are what got him in.
I always had a lot of respect for Jimmy but I think playing in Jag town will hurt his chances to. It's not exactly the media darling team. The media only writes about them when an axe gets brought into the dressing room and hurts a girly kicker

He is so unworthy
yea i don't think that Smith will get in the HOF not that he doesnt deserve it he just doesnt have the popularity of other guys such as Irvin or Swann. Its too bad.
