I know, I know, it's a name that makes almost all true Warriors fans cringe. How could we give up someone so good with so much potential right after his rookie season? I mean, there were flashes of brilliance, and we all knew how good he could be. Then we go and trade him and our franchise player for Nick Van Exel(injured, never consistent), Evan Eschmeyer (crappy player with an even crappier contract), and Popeye Jones (ugly game, even uglier himself ). WHY?!? I think I heard Mullin say that the only way that the Mavs would take the deal was if Welsch was included. WHY TAKE THE DEAL!? Imagine.. we'd be in the playoff race if we had Antawn and Welsch, and not Van Exel and the other 2 scrubs who are so bad that I forgot their names. I understand letting go Arenas, I guess it's excusable because we didn't have the money, but why make this trade?! Financial security? We're paying an aging pg with a bum knee $13 mil a year!

Jiri Welsch is like a Brent Barry type of player. He could have been playing some point if we still had him. BTW, that player we had was Antoine Rigadeau. A player so crappy the Mavs fanned nicknamed him Riga-don't. I don't think there was another unless you are counting Avery Johnson who I think you forgot to mention. Eschemeyer, NVE, Rigadon't, Popeye Jones, and Avery were the 5 that were traded for our 4 of Jamison, Welsh, Mills, and Fortson. The only break the warriors got was getting Cliff Robinson for Bobby Sura and Pepe Sanchez. Thank goodness we don't have Danny Ainge at least.
That was the only part of the trade I didn't like. You could see that Jiri had it, he just needed the burn.
While we are paying NVE $13M this year and next, the Warriors unloaded Antawn's huge contract, that was the reason for the trade. As for Jiri, look at what happens when you let someone play. Please remember this as you snipe at Dunleavy for his lack of development.
Jiri has so little playing time compared to Dunleavy last year. I'd rather Jiri because at least he can play defense, handle the ball and shoot wide open 3's. Last time I checked Jiri had over 40% on 3 point shots and averages at least a steal per game. I'm going to be sniping at Dunleavy forever until he plays like an allstar on a consistent basis.
I remember when GSW played the Blazers in Oakland and we all wanted Jiri to play some garbage minutes. You could see then he had game. He made one jumper at the top of the key and everyone said to just keep shooting it. As for Dunleavy, it's his first season really. I'm not totally critical of him yet; I'm looking at next year for him to break out.

The reason why the Warriors did this deal was that they made so many mistakes in the past(Jamison's and Fortson's deal). And for some reason, they thought last offseason, after the Warriors had their most success in many years, was the time to cover them. And they thought that the Mavs trade they did this last offseason was the deal that will solve their past mistakes. There's really only one word to tell you why that trade between the Warriors and Mavs happened. And that word is; MISMANAGEMENT. And to have this same management still here in Oakland befuddles me. The Warriors have a great fan base, especially for how bad this team has been. But how long will it take before we passionate Warrior/basketball fans try to make things change? Also looking back the Warriors pretty much traded Jamison and Jiri for trash(as in value not as persons of course) and cap space in the great year of 2005; 11 years after the Warriors last made the playoffs. And if Dunleavy is the player that was supposed to solve this team's problems, then that trade really makes no sence. Because Jiri and Jamison are both better than Dunleavy.
A healthy Nick would have made the Mavs trade good actually. I just don't why they had to accept Eschemeyer. Wasn't there some other players that could have come off the book much quicker?
I did not like Jiri because he would take it to the hoop, but then finger roll it and he would get swatted. He needed to either dunk it or get a higher quick release.
