Wow, I just checked out the box score from the Celtics-Sixers game, and realized that with his 22 points, Jiri Welsch has had yet another solid game for the Celtics, really providing that second scoring threat that Psquared has needed. Anyone else think that this could be his breakout year, or will we have to wait till next year to see the real Welsch on a regular basis? http://www.nba.com/games/20031221/PHIBOS/boxscore.html
He has shown us what he can do several times this year. I think he will be real good down the road, but for now he will remain inconsistent
Great player, he reminds me a lot of Danny Ainge with the number, the hair, and the scoring. With Lafrentz out, they needed to get something out of the Toine trade.
I've been pretty surprised by his play, and even with all the talk about the season's sleepers, I never gave much thought to Jiri Welsch. He's a pleasant surprise, to say the least. I think this will be a big year for him. He's ready to step up and contribute right now.
Jiri is the real deal. Once he gets consistent playing time he should force his way into the starting lineup permanently. Not only can he stroke the jumper, but watch this guy play defense - he's relentless (much like Ainge).

He's a great complimentary player to Pierce.
http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/ce...st_of_his_shot/ "I knew he was European, so I automatically assumed he could shoot, even if that's kind of a prejudiced way of looking at it. But he's actually a very smart player. After the first week of practice, I knew that we really needed him." -- F Paul Pierce, in the Dec. 26 Boston Herald, on G/F Jiri Welsch. Pierce refers to the new Celtic as his "go-to guy" Look at his stats from his last 5 games 15 points per game 2 assists 2 rebounds 50% 3pointers 16-18 from foul line 1.4 Steals per game 568% shooting
.568% shooting - this is the most impressive stat of all. I hadn't realized that Jiri was in fact starting now full-time, that's great news. With Pierce, Davis and Welsh and Baker, the Celtics now appear to have more balance than they have in recent history. There is a method to DA's madness.
jiri is unbelieveable..and is the celtics biggest gain out of that blockbuster trade...who woulda thought huh..i think this kid is nice...he's should stay as a starter, but I don't know how obrien is going to work the position with ricky and jiri...ricky is a star player and he wants to start..interesting to see what happens...what do you guys think...
yeah, Jiri needs to be more aggressive on offense...he's a great shooter and versatile in the backcourt so he needs to be more assertive in the system..he's another scorer that Boston could desperately use...
I think the Celtics would be better to develop Jiri at the point and start him along with Pierce and Davis to form a quick backcourt.
Jiri has been doing great as of late and part of that is due to the fact that he is getting playing time this season. He is looking more and more like the centrepiece for the whole Antoine Walker trade. If they didn't get Jiri they would have nothing to show for it.
