A healthy Paul Pierce (note that he has never truly had a real injury until this season), no doubt in my mind. Paul is a top 15 player in this league, he's way more of a leader, he's one of the more clutch performers, and he's just one of those guys that can take over and carry his team to victory almost singlehandedly. I'm not taking anything away from Joe Johnson, I actually love JJ and I think he's one of the most underrated stars in the NBA, but there is no doubt in my mind I'd take Paul Pierce over him.
Paul Pierce can do it all. Johnson puts up nice numbers, and CAN play PG, but Paul provides toughness and leadership for Boston, while Johnson seems passive as a leader for the young Hawks. Both have struggled through injuries this year, however.
Pierce by far. He's the all around better player. More athletic and versital. JJ is more of a shooter than a pure scorer like Paul.

Pierce could be a MVP canidate IMO if he played a WHOLE season healthy.

The fact of the matter is that this year was the ONLY year he didn't put together a full year. For Paul to be an MVP candidate, he'd have to improve defensively and we'd have to win an extra 25-30 games.
Johnson is putting up monster numbers because he plays on a horrific basketball team. He is a great player but Pierce has been a 25-7-5 guy for several years, he can play great defense although it has been falling off recently, he is a born leader, and he is one of the most underrated clutch players in the NBA. The guy can shoot 2-20 from the field and wind up with 25 points because he is so physical with his drives to the hoop and is constantly a top 5 free throw attempt leader. I love Joe Johnson as a player but this is no comparison.
Paul Pierce brings better rebounding and inside game, but JJ is a better passer and shooter. Personaly, if JJ played like he did this season(when healthy), I would take JJ. But ive always like him as one of my fav. players. Two different players. I think PP will be picked more in the thread for the simple fact hes always been the star and JJ is just now being that(not because he wasnt good, but because of talent, youth etc.). I think they're equal, just different types of players. But I would pick JJ.

Hes putting up better numbers now, but you can watch his play and easily tell hes a star, not because his team sucks(and ATL doesn't lack talent, and its only when a team lacks talent when we see a false star)
-Paul Pierce has a better takeover mentality-Paul Pierce is more of a leader- Pierce Can do it all- Don't Deny Joe Johnsons versatility though- Joe Johnson is not that far from Pierce
We havent had a opputunity to see JJ take over though. When ATL is good, I think we will see that. I was watching a old Suns game today and he took over for a brief period.

He's a great player, I never really said he wasn't a great player and I love Johnson as a basketball player. You also said in a comment above that Joe Johsnon is a better passer and shooter? Where is that evidence? Pierce and Johnson are both tremendous shooters and distributers. Pierce has been playing at a top level player for several years and has lead a team deep into the playoffs before. When has Johnson done that? Also, Pierce is one of the most underrated clutch players in the game. In tough pressure situations this guy has the uncanny ability to turn it on and pull through in the clutch.
WTJ, Joe Johnson is a better passer than Pierce, I can't deny that one at all. As for shooting, it's pretty even.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Joe Johnson is a better passer than Pierce</div>How so? I'm not going to agree with that.

Hes only lead his team to a 40+ win season 3 times in his career and twice 45+. How could he be a MVP candidate, he has so much to prove to be that high. Your talking about putting him with company like Lebron, Kobe, Nash, Dirk, TMac, and Duncan.
When I said shooter, I meant 3-point shooting, which he is slightly better. I qouted you becuase you said that hes only putting up good numbers becuase hes on a horrific team.I never said that Paul Pierce wasnt clutch, and he can take over games. But IMO, JJ can too. I just think there even as far as how good they are. And PP has defiently been a star longer than Joe Johnson, but how does that make him better? JJ has always played with great guards on Phoenix, and not to mention he did average 17ppg with Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire, and Steve Nash all being options before him.

By the way, he's made it farther in the playoffs than Lebron, T-Mac, and Kobe (without Shaq) ever have. Joe Johnson is not a franchise guy...well unless your franchise is a perennial lottery team like the Hawks.
Let me ask, why isnt JJ a franchise player? And if he isnt, what does PP have that he doesn't? A few more all-star games? Allstar games doesn't make you a franchise player. As a matter of fact, I dont think either are franchise players. But thats my opinion, I wanna know what make you think PP is a franchise player and JJ isnt. This is seriously one of those threads where Boston fans(except CB32) overrated their players and think they are the greatest thing in the NBA. Its one thing to have pride, its another to make stupid statements. Everybody sees it, why cant yall stop? It gets very annoying.
The thing is..I think talent-wise they both have those kind of skills but Pierce is a proven superstar while Johnson is a rising superstar.
