I know he signed a 5 yr deal but was wondering what the all important buyout clause might be? possibly allowing us to bring him over.
I think we helped him negotiate it, so I assume the buyout is reasonable. Remember, though, Cho doesn't have the same attachment to our euros. Who knows what he thinks of Freeland, Claver or Kopo?
Freeland couldn't play C. He's an active backup PF, but he wouldn't solve anything. Besides, let him stay away from the curse.
who said or even implied he was the answer? if we rebuild we need players, from the little I've read he's improved nicely the last yr or two, so someone with reasonable intelligence might consider him an option
He has been nothing more than an average player at best in the Euro league. I think if he were worth anything, the Blazers would have pushed hard for him to come over already.
In case you haven't been paying attention to current events we are no longer planning on going to the finals. But having a few competant players would be cool. Would he be a good center to add depth? Yes he would. I have seen Freeland play before. I have seen Sean Marks play before. I cannot understand how Freeland is not in the league yet Marks is.
We no longer have a serious chance to contend, so I want other bright spots to enjoy. I get that from rookies, youth and potential. I love watching the young guns play and wondering what they could turn into. I would love to nab Freeland. One more big that may prove to be a good match in the NBA. He could suck, but we know that Marks does, so why not give Freeland a shot. Besides, he is athletic and has good size, and HAS NEVER HAD A SERIOUS INJURY. When the Jail-Blazers era ended, management made sure to put character first. Now, we need to think about Healthy knees as a major plus, especially in a big.
I agree with MM- if he was something special (now or later), he'd be here. But he's not. And isn't going to be. Let it sink in for a while- then you'll get it.
I used to be high on Freeland until I heard that our International scouts compared him to Shav Randolph.
Here are his stats so far this year for Unicaja, nice improvement from his 12.4 PPG last season. http://www.euroleague.net/competition/players/showplayer?pcode=LOO&gamecode=53
Note that that's only in the Euroleague, which is like the Champions league in "soccer" - that is, sort of equivalent to playoff stats over here, in that all the games are against top flight competition. Sadly, Claver seems to be going in the opposite direction. Certainly his team is - it's scraping the bottom of the ACB.
