The Twins like those players. They've told the Mets they'd have a done deal if New York would add prized outfield prospect Fernando Martinez.</div>

Personally I think that would be a great deal for the Mets.

Anyone but the Yankees or Boston is fine by me.

I don't know enough of those prospects to say if this is a good deal for the Mets. They seem like they have good cornerstones to build upon in Jose and David; why mortgage the future?

mortgage the future? gotta go for the title, now, especially considering johan is the top pitcher in the game.

I can't see them going from out of the playoffs to winning a championship, right now, anyway.

The Mets also have three first round picks this year.

That's still a lot to give up, but pitchers are getting locked up and never hitting the FA market. Whoever trades for Santana will sign him long-term.

Tough call if that's the deal. It's a lot more than anyone else has offered.

What's his estimated extension? At least 20mil per. I'm thinking 23.

I'd NEVER pay that much for a pither, either in terms of prospects to acquire one or salary that it will take to sign him to a new deal. Of course, this is the Mets we're talking about.

I don't know what that means, considering the Mets have not given any outrageous contracts to pitchers nor traded a large package of prospects for one.

they've demonstrated that they are willing to overpay to get the top available veterans, whether via trade or free agency.

They've demonstrated that they will spend money. They've been able to retain their key role players and hold onto their young stars. They don't have to economize like some franchises unfortunately do. They are a large market team.

If anything, though, they've been pretty conservative when it comes to free agents or trading for big contract players. They haven't depleated their farm system in recent years. They haven't given anyone outrageous "Gary Matthews" type deals.

The Mets are in a position to pay whatever they have to to acquire a real ace - as they should - but they haven't developed one and none are available.

Can someone give me some info on these young Mets? I have heard about Martinez, but not the others.

Gomez would be your THunter replacement. He's a speedster, extremely fast, great glove, great arm, still developing as a hitter.
