Over the last few weeks two very different books have told the story of an unstable president unable to govern and unfit to lead. One book was written by Mary Trump, the president’s niece, the other was written by John Bolton, Trump's former National Security Adviser. The two differ in many ways. Mary Trump has a Ph.D. in psychology and once spent six months at a Long Island hospital studying patients with schizophrenia. John Bolton is a terrifying warmonger who loves to blow things up. Bolton’s book, The Room Where It Happened (for which he received a reported $2 million book advance), is a torpid 577 pages and reads like poorly translated stereo instructions, (Bolton has a gift for bleeding the color and excitement out of every single event he chronicles.) Mary Trump’s book, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, is a much more readable 225 pages, a delicious tell-all that does in fact tell all in a way one longs for a tell all to do.
