Anybody remember 12/8/80? What were you doing when you heard? How much music did we miss out on? Any other thought?
I was at a political meeting. I got home and my brother called me, long distance. He told me John had been killed. I remember I put Lennon quotes on all my holiday cards that year. Life is indeed what happens to you while you're busy making other plans. Take a sad song and make it better.
I was driving my Buick Skylark north on highway 141 and just entering the town of Trout Lake, Washington. When I heard the news on the radio at first I couldn't believe it. Then I pulled over and cried.
I watched the US vs. John Lennon...seemed like kinda of an asshole but I liked his music....probably not the meaning of most of it though.
that was a somber night in my room playing records thinking about how empty/pointless his death seemed... a blind end to a creative force. I was in high school and had been a big music/Beatles fan growing up, especially liking John. Imagine what we might have been treated to if... STOMP
The most talented of the Beatles. He made by far the best music of the four, as a solo artist. I didn't even realize the anniversary of his assassination was approaching, yet I listened to my compilation of his music last week. Strange. It would definitely have been interesting to see what he could have produced over the past 28 years.
Yeah, Peace, Love, Brotherhood, all pretty horrid stuff. Kinda like religion, but without all the finger-pointing and worship of mythical beings.
I was had a virus on my computer that played a Lennon song on the date of his death every year. Since it wasn't harmful, I left it there. It was many years ago and kinda cool.
