http://hoopshype.com/salaries/sacramento.htm Brad Miller is 2010 friendly, so if we could dump Kirk and/or Nocioni on them, that would be great. If it's involving Drew Gooden, not so hot on it. But Brad Miller/Larry Hughes, those two big expirings could bring in a big trade next year at the deadline. Thats a lot of money in expiring contracts. I'd really like Chris Kaman on this team as well. The trade the Bulls discussed this summer involved Andres Nocioni and Cedric Simmons, as well as maybe a draft pick or Joakim Noah. Trading Nocioni would make us a 2010 player, but Hinrich is the one you really want to move out of the two, given the chemistry problems he could cause when he comes back, as well as the fact that he will just be an overpaid backup as long as he's here.
What's that quote from? I see this KC Johnson article that has a Pax quote saying: but that's just hypothesizing from KC and a statement from Pax that he's "trying". I don't read that evidence and think he's "finalizing" anything. "Finalize" connotes a situation where you've got a basic agreement with someone and you're just going through the details. That doesn't seem to be the case here.
My bad. Wrong link. I looked at the hoopshype page after, and linked that instead. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...81218-kc-johnson-chicago-bulls,0,960268.story
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...8-nba-chi&prov=sportsxchange&type=team_report General manager John Paxson has thought about trying to make a trade that would put the Bulls in better shape for the rest of the season. The team could definitely use some veteran help inside, but waiting until next year to try and make a bigger splash is another viable option. “I’m trying right now, honestly,” Paxson said of the trade market. “We’ve had a lot of conversation, as a lot of teams have. But there’s nothing right now that we’ve been able to lock in on. We’re trying to find some things that fit. When you look at the big picture, our goal is going to be to try and get this thing built with Derrick (Rose) in mind and what fits him. That’s going to take a little bit of time here to try and move some pieces.”
You know, when is it ever productive to talk about trading your players before a deal is finalized? Mark this up as another Paxson botch job.
My creative juices are just not flowing today. I'm trying to come up with a good completion to this sentence but I can't. John Paxson working to finalize a trade is like......
Heh I dunno... he was pretty generic there. I suspect some of those guys are actively hoping for a trade (Hughes) and not too worried about it.
According to a fan that was at the game tonight, Drew Gooden wasn't with the Bulls on the bench, which is weird for an injury like Gooden's. Bulls and Raptors are talking a trade. I'd imagine we would be trading for Jermaine O'neal, with a small chance of the discussions being for Bargnani.
Gooden + Nocioni + Hughes for Jermaine O'neal and Joey Graham. I could so see them doing this. It'd make the Bulls a 2010 player, while allowing them to keep Hinrich around (clearing out playing time for him by eliminating Hughes from the picture). Not really a fan of trading for JO, but if it's what's needed to be done to become a 2010 player, so be it. I'd still try to unload Hinrich after doing this trade (then you have plenty of minutes for Sefolosha between the 1-2-3)...
I'd rather sneak Noah into the package someway instead of Gooden...And I like Noc... I want Bosh >_>.
"The" trade? I see this from the Sacramento Bee today So perhaps the Miller for Gooden talk is picking up, though it still seems to be (informed?) speculation. Gooden is liked by the Kings. We need a center. I'd preferably keep Gooden and Miller both, then I'd think we're getting somewhere, but it's a start. What's not a start is taking a big chunk of our salary space off the books next year. That will make re-signing Gordon or even signing a replacement pretty much an impossibility.
Pretty much a sideways move at the bigs position, though adding Noah and Thomas would decimate us for the most part. Looking at Sacto's roster, they do have Mikki Moore, who could give us some decent minutes as a backup. But get used to seeing Noc at PF!
Gerald Wallace is rumored to be available, even straight up for Brad Miller. Now there is a guy who's a huge upgrade from most of the players we have, but I don't see us doing great in the deal if we did Gooden+filler for him. Wallace would probably end up playing PF for us with Noah at C, and we'd likely play a LOT of 4 guard offense.
I don't see how Wallace makes much sense for us just in general. And that article seems to think the Bobcats (err... Larry Brown) isn't a fan of Miller anyway. I've been looking at the salaries, and the biggest obstacle I see as far as the Bulls is that they almost have to add Tyrus or a more highly paid player to avoid the LT. Miller makes $11.375M. Gooden only makes $7.15M. Even adding Simmons as filler would still create a net increase to our salary that would put us over the luxury tax. Especially if we give up Gooden, I don't know if we can afford to move Thomas or Noah. What would work financially (this season) for the Bulls would be something along the lines of: Bulls send: Gooden, Nocioni, Simmons Bulls get: Miller and Shelden Williams That actually takes $2M off our cap this year, which would facilitate another trade this season, and at least give us some breathing room. Next year it creates a net increase of $4.75M to our guaranteed salary, which means you can kiss Gordon goodbye without a replacement (because we'll be that close to the LT in all likelihood) unless we manage another salary-shedding trade (of Hughes or Hinrich, I guess). So that's a bit of a problem, but it is a workable one. I do think Miller is a slight upgrade to Gooden, and we lock him in for another year, which is good. I'm also one of the few folks besides Candice Parker, I guess, who wouldn't mind seeing what Shelden Williams has to offer. I'd probably try to hold off on actually pulling the trade until I found a salary shedding deal for Hughes (such as Hughes to New York for Malik Rose - expiring- and Jerome James). That gets us back in decent salary position for next year, and clears the backcourt logjam. 1/2- Rose, Gordon, Hinrich 3- Deng, Thabo 4- Thomas, Williams, Rose 5- Miller, Noah, Gray
Speaking of Wallaces...I was thinking. We might end up in a position of trading Kirk Hinrich and Andres Nocioni for Ben Wallace at the trade deadline next year if we're hellbent on 2010.
Lakers fans hate Lamar Odom and think that an Odom for Hinrich deal (as principles) would make them happy. Odom's got $14.3M salary and is an expiring contract. For us it would clear the logjam at G once Hinrich is healthy, and it'd give us that expiring contract and a guy who can ultimately be the best F on the team since Brand. For the reasons DC stated, we'd have to throw in at least $14.3M in salary or go over the LT. Kirk and Thomas gets us to $13.7M so it's a bit more complicated when you also consider roster spots (a 2-1 gets us to 13 on the roster and adding any salary pushes us over LT that much more). Maybe we could swing Hinrich and Noc for Odom and Mihm? $18M out and $17M in - works. $2.7M Mihm expiring plus you might be able to re-sign Odom for $10M gets you ~$7M to spread around to resign Gordon and Gooden.
