John Salmons and Vinny Del Negro think Garnett will play in the series. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/basketball/bulls/1530924,CST-SPT-bull17.article
I don't think he'll play in the series, but I think Doc is lying about him missing the entire playoffs. How could he judge now how KG is going to feel in a month, when the ECF starts? I think he's trying to eliminate the "we;ll be fine when KG comes back" mentality that the team seemed to have.
I think what will happen is Celtics will win the first 2 games, then Bulls will win the next 2 games, and then all of a sudden, Kevin Garnett will be magically healthy.
I don't know if you heard it, but Danny Ainge did an interview about a week ago and basically said KG is medically cleared to play whenever he wants to. It's on him at this point, the staff isn't holding him back. Considering that, it's hard to imagine he would sit out and let the team lose without at least giving it a shot. Even if he could only play 20 mins a night, that would be a huge help. I'm not buying Doc's comments at all.
