I really feel for this guy that so far in his career in Philadelphia he has not become the player he was projected to be when he was drafted by the Spurs only to be traded to his hometown Philadelphia 76ers. Like Igoudala he to was compared to Scottie Pippen when he first came into the league do to his versatility and his length. He dominated the summer league circuit when he played in it, and I still personally feel like this guy has the potential to be a great starter in this league in the future. When he has been given a shot to produce in this teams scheme of the 76ers he has shown he has a good offensive game, and is a good shooter at times from the line. He was shooting 85% from the line at one point in the 2003-05 campaign. One problem he has always had however is he is a player who tends to get down on himself, and give up on a game if he comes in and misses his first couple shots.

Also a bad twist for him is he has never really gotten a shot to be a consistent player for the team. When he first came into the team their bench was very deep at the guard position. So he was basically a bench warmer for his first season in the league then when he really started to prove himself in summer league players like Kyle Korver and Willie Green came into the team. So he was pushed even farther back down the bench. Now with Igoudala apparently becoming the future superstar of this team as well as Green and Korver getting wealthy extensions. It looks like this guy is never going to get this shot as a 76er. Even if he were to perform well this season, and show the team something we are most likely going to cut all the corners we can on players who we feel want to much money/ are expendable so we can resign Igoudala. I just want to know does anyone feel he ever really got a fair shot in this system I mean he went through Larry Brown, Randy Ayers, Ford, Jim O?Brien, and now soon to come Maurice Cheeks. Was it the coaches? The roster? Or him that kept it from working? Also is he good as gone?

well, i would still give this guy one more chance. he isnt a bad player, and on some nights, he can really step it up. remember the night against dallas when AI was injured? he scored 19 points and led the team to victory. i think his main problem is the same problem with sammy and willie. they have experienced too many coaching changes. the only thing is, its effecting salmons more than the other players. i think if he is given a permanent coaching system, he should live up to his expectations.

I'm always a sympathizer for Salmons. The coaching changes and rotations really has stunted his growth as a player. Physically, he has everything needed to succeed in the NBA but the problem is his mentality. On some nights he can light you up if his shots on. But if his shots aren't falling, he isn't able to scrap it up and find his shot. He showed everyone that he had skills and potential in the 03-04 season when almost everyone were injured except him, Green, Korver, and Dalembert. However, what hurt his development the most was last year. O'Brien played him even less than Green, which is definitely saying something. He failed to utilize him at all or even develop him for that matter. Of course, the coach that he was best under was Ford, but everyone knows how that story ended. Truthfully, I think he's as good as gone. There's no spot in the rotation for him, and he will probably want a bigger contract once the current one ends- something we won't be able to give him.

I wasn't really talking about that big of a contract. Not like the Green or Korver type ones. Salmons still has a bit of potential and the body to become a good role player in the league. I can see some rebuilding teams like Atlanta taking him from us.

I'm not sure what the status on Salmons is. All I know is that the 76ers already picked up his option sometime threw the season so I guess that might mean he is still a 76ers. Salmons is solid, when he gets good minutes he usually produces. I don't like to see him as a spot up shooter though, and I think that?s what O'Brien made him do when playing him. Salmons is a guy who needs the ball to create his own offense. With the 76ers having guys that take most of the shots I think it is harder for him to score. Once AI and C Webb slow down more then it will be time for the other guys to start taking more shots and having the ball more.

Mentality? I've watched this guy and his mentality seems to be the last of his problems. There are many players that have a strong psyche but there are times that no matter how strong you are mentally when you're shot is not falling its not falling and there is not a thing you can do about it.

AznxBaller hit it on the nail. The problem with Salmons is not really him, it's the coaching, roster and rotation. With the different coaches that's been around and the new guys that's coming in it's hurt his growth and PT. If he can get consistent playing time and know his role on the team he will be in great shape. Those games where it seems as if he can?t hit a shot if his life deepened on it should not be taken seriously because how do you expect him to be consistent when he doesn?t even get consistent PT?

As far as his futire in Philly, I think this season will determine whether he will be part of that young core or a valuable trade asset.
