<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Decisions that would guarantee extending the Suns careers of Joe Johnson and Casey Jacobsen must be wrapped up by Sunday. But the Suns almost certainly will pass on the opportunity. "It's unlikely" the Suns will negotiate a long-term contract extension for Johnson or pick up the fourth-year option on Jacobsen, Suns president Bryan Colangelo confirmed Wednesday. </div> Real GM I don't have any details on the ammount of what the contracts were worth. I think Johnson is upset about the signing of Richardson, who is probably going to be spliting time with him. The Suns probably want to pay him as a part time shooting guard rather then a player that gives you 40+ minutes. Johnson will probably be looking nice deal like Boozer as it says in the article... If I had a guess (this is my opinion) I would think that JJ's extension deal was going to be worth around 6.5-7 million a year, which is right around what Q is going to be getting paid. He might get a little more in the off-season if he proves the Suns that him and Richardson can work in the same offense.
The Suns are putting JJ in the same situation QRich was in LA. They aren't guaranteeing he'll stay in Phoenix, but they'll have the option to resign him next offseason if they match other offers. I think they might be able to, considering JJ's numbers won't be that great this year sharing time with Q, his market value won't be that high. And I guess they're saying, if they lose JJ, they have a good SG left.
Why can't they keep both? Why don't these players take a pay cut like the spurs did to stay on a good team? LOL...in the words of Spree, "I have to feed my family!!"
