The idea behind TRT is to return someone with low testosterone to a normal level, not to an elevated level. However the NSAC allows a ratio of 6:1 testosterone to epitestosterone, which is 6x the normal amount, in order to accommodate persons with natural above average ratios. I believe Sonnen & Overeem were both popped with levels exceeding 14-17x the normal amount. The problem isn't really with guys getting these exceptions so much as it is the commissions allowing hugely elevated levels rather than normal ones.

Are any MMA fighters naturally lacking in testosterone? Seems hard to believe. Maybe compared to someone 10 years younger than themselves, but I can't imagine Dan Henderson, Sonnen, etc. lacking in testosterone relative to the rest of the population.

Well supposedly there are a few things that can lead to low testosterone for guys in their middle years, including and most importantly past abuse of steroids.

Hendo is over 40. Your testosterone levels start dropping, I can understand it.

It doesn't bother me as much as it does most people. I'd like to see Jones' stance on it 8-10 years from now.

^ But you agree that their levels should not exceed those of their competitors?

How long are we supposed to allow them to prop themselves up with TRT or anything else? On the one hand its their profession and they should be allowed to continue to compete, well, competitively. On the other, they're basically using performance enhancing drugs to make themselves artificially better than they are. They're taking precious spots in the UFC from younger guys. They have an advantage that they're opponents do not.

Agree about JJ. Hes trashing it now as a young guy but I'd bet that if its legal when he's 32 and hes feeling the heat from the new wave of fighters, he'll be all over it.
