Jones, the Cavaliers' backup point guard, hadn't spoken to the Cleveland print media for almost three weeks. The boycott started when Cavaliers coach Mike Brown announced that Eric Snow would be his starting point guard.
"I want to apologize to the media for taking a hard stance and not talking," Jones said after practice Monday at Quicken Loans Arena. "I know from a business standpoint, I did you writers a disservice for not talking because you were not able to get in my clever quotes and humorous statements in the paper."
When the veteran guard was signed as a free agent Sept. 8, many assumed it was to be the starter. But Snow emerged in training camp and won the job. At that point, Jones said he would no longer address basketball questions.
When asked if his reason for not talking had anything to do with Snow being picked as the starter, Jones replied, "Next question."
Jones said it wasn't in his best interest to answer that question.
"I felt it was a situation that I didn't want to create a distraction to my team," he said. "Some of the questions that I would have had to answer were not in my best interest to answer. I let the dust settle a little while. I'm sorry you guys had to take the brunt of that. This team didn't need any distractions."
Jones said the Cavaliers' fast start - they are 8-2 heading into their game against Boston at 7 tonight at Quicken Loans Arena - helped change his mind. He also probably missed seeing his mug on television after games.
"I would have let the dust settle before I got back into the media realm," Jones said. "I was missing you guys. I don't want you guys to get a big head. I like to talk. Not being able to talk really hurt me. I didn't get sleep some nights. I'm glad to get these mics and cameras in my face."
Jones has been effective coming off the bench, along with Donyell Marshall. They enter the game with 6 minutes left in the first quarter. Marshall is averaging 12.2 points and 8.0 rebounds, while Jones checks in at 9.6 points and 2.7 assists. Both are accomplished 3-point shooters.
Jones said there was nothing in the newspapers that caused him to clam up.
"No, there was nothing written that I didn't like," Jones said. "The situation at the time didn't need any more fire or ignition. Things have worked out well. We've been great. Mike Brown has been great in making everyone comfortable in their roles."
Jones was asked if he was comfortable in his role coming off the bench.
    "Next question," he said.
Jones, who leads the team in 3-point goals (21) and attempts (49), can provide much scoring punch off the bench.
"And some other things as well," he said. "I'm getting other guys involved and providing energy."
The 29-year-old is quite demonstrative on the court. When being pressured bringing the ball up the court, he often kicks his leg high in the air to ward off pesky defenders. After a 3-pointer, he'll show three fingers.
"The last couple years, I've given you the '3' sign," Jones said. "Now I'm putting it on a platter."</div>
