Gurgel is a big hearted fighter who gives it his all in the ring.. but he doesn't belong in the UFC and the UFC finally saw this. but he wasn't a FA for long, minutes after being released, he was signed by Strikeforce where he should see some success. Maybe Jorge will start using some of his famed BJJ skills rather than trying to go toe to toe with people who are known strikers.
There are lots of journeymen fighters in the UFC who put on good fights but tend to lose as much as they win. I'm not sure why Gurgel is being singled out here. The guys is coming off a Fight of the Night at UFC 91, which featured many good fights. From the looks of Dustin Hazelett, Gurgel is a great coach. Maybe that should be his focus. No reason he can't start elevating the status of his camp to the level of guys like Couture and Jackson.
As far as his in-octagon skills, he has been a dissapointment from the beginning. Loosing to Jason Von Flue after going on and on about how good of a fighter he is on TUF2, and the rest of his fights went pretty much the same exact way. It's a good thing he never had to fight someone good in that house like Joe Stevenson or Josh Burkman, he would have been KO'ed pretty quickly. That said, I'm with Speeds on this one, dude could seriously have a great camp if he wanted to. He trained a few good fighters, also including Ace Franklin(don't think he still does, does he?) but he was the first to help train Franklin.
