Keeping Hart and actually playing Brogdon would be a pretty intriguing back court. Along with the Ayton trade, it's not hard to envision that trio and two serviceable forwards being a competitive lineup.
That's exactly why Hart wasn't coming back. They weren't going to be able to sign both of them, so decided to go with Grant instead. Those decisions were largely made far before the actual signings.
If we miss the playoffs 2025, '26 and '27 but then make the playoffs in 2028 we would then lose the opportunity to swap with the Bucks. If we don't make the playoffs in 2028 or make the playoffs any season between now and then or we fulfill our obligation to the Bulls in a separate trade... then we'll be able to use the Bucks swap.
There was no reason to sign Hart. He fits this Knicks team culture like a glove. In Portland he was the only player playing hard (I said this 20times before). Signing Grant instead of Hart was the last straw for me. Happy to see him doing his thing in great environment.
He was going to bolt Portland anyway in free agency The only thing that stings is how mediocre Kris Murray looks as a prospect.
Just want to say that I think eventually Murray will show that he was worth where he was drafted. He always does the right thing and his shooting will come around.
I surely hope we make the playoffs by then so we can actually use the swap since the Bucks should be terrible. Hence why I think it is important to get our 1st back.
Just got into this thread and I haven't paid attention to it. Just here to say, with regard to the thread title, this is ANOTHER one of Cronin's boneheaded moves.... Hart should still be on the team but hell, so should Dame. FUCK Cronin...
I'm amazed people can think there was a reasonable path to keeping Hart that made sense for him or the franchise.
Kris has the fundamentals. He works hard. Murray gets rebounds, plays D, and can finish with either hand. I noticed his FT% dipped from his big college year. That's gotta be rookie jitters. He'll get better. Murray has a lot to bring to the NBA.
I can't think of a more obvious situation where both sides knew it wasn't meant to be long term and worked together to find a new home. It's the completely opposite end of the spectrum from how things went down with Dame.
Hart is a good dude. A stand-up guy and wish him the best. He was gone, but I’m glad he’s happy. I can see how Grant isn’t an easy decision on keep or trade … but it’s a trade IMHO. Same with Ant. It comes down to who fits the team and timeline once the young fellas are ready to make the playoffs.
I just don't get how people are so angry about the moves we made. We were never going to compete with Dame. Time to pull the bandaid off and suck for a star. If we don't draft one fire Cronin and Schmitz after a couple years.
