    Josh Smith has been told by the Houston Rockets that they plan on making him a contract offer if they are unable to sign Dwight Howard.

    Smith understood the Rockets' sense of priorities and appears to be taking a slow approach in free agency.

    Smith met with the Detroit Pistons for approximately five hours after the start of free agency.

    Smith has yet to meet with the Atlanta Hawks, who would be amenable to a sign-and-trade.
