<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I read over the weekend where the Sacramento Kings have reportedly floated a five-year, $55 million offer Kevin Martin?s way. That?s great news for K-Mart (if you remember back to last year he was the surprise star of my fantasy league squad). It?s also horrible news for the Hawks and their hope of signing Josh Smith to an extension. K-Mart dropped nearly 20-points a night for a lottery team and gets that kind of offer. So you can imagine what the market price will be for guys like Smith, who can do so much more across the board. I wasn?t worried about the Hawks signing their young guys to extensions before now, but I?ll admit things could get real sticky (the negotiations at least) as times goes by. It pays to sign your guys early and get them taken care of before the numbers start escalating. And the Hawks have both Josh Smith and Josh Childress to worry about.</div> Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution
If Josh Smith had a better jumper, he would be worth way more then Kevin Martin. He is a great player (Smith) and he can play at any spot except PG and C. He is a great shot blocker and can run the court no problem. If he was implemented in to a better system, he could develop his game better. I think that Woodson is not a good enough coach to help Smith become a great player.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If Josh Smith had a better jumper</div> Something that he has been working on. I remember him making a couple of clutch jumpers against the Nets. If he continues to progress, which he will, Smith's going to be one hell of a player. His jumping ability is one thing, but adding a deadly jumper, is crucial. Richard Jefferson used to be very one-dimensional, and now he's able to sink in 3's.
I honestly can't see this signing affecting Josh Smith's value. They're two completely different types of players. The only thing they have similar between the two of them is that they're each on bad teams.
Teams will be offering him much more than the MLE. I believe Gerald Wallace's extension was the best measuring stick for Smith's extension however, not Martin. Wallace and Smith are similar players who are very versitile and can defend many positions, but both lack the perimiter range. He got a six year contract at arond 60 million, so I was expecting Smith to be looking around that range also.
I fully expect Smith to land somewhere around $60mil if he were to hit the FA market. He's so versatile and can do pretty much everything. He's more than worth the money people would give to him. If he gets resigned for the MLE....than his agent is a moron.
