I saw this on the orlando forum here is what is

    reported..http://www.justbball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21179

The Magic would get; Jason Richardson - SG Erik Dampier - Center (sign & trade)
Golden State Warriors would get; Drew Gooden - PF Cuttino Mobley - SG Kelvin Cato - Center (or Future 1st pick)

I dont really like the trade because Jrich is my favorit player. However, I wanted to draft Drew Gooden instead of Dunleavy. The guy has potential to be a 20/10 guy every night. But like Jrich, he is inconsistent. Mobley is a good role player. I think this trade really opens the door for Petrius. Cato is a bust, but provides back up at the center position. And another first round pick is not too shabby. Especially if the magic end up in the lottery again.

That's a fantastic deal for Golden State, with Dampier not coming back.

Well if this rumour is legit, it should come down to Dampier. Does he even want to play for Orlando? His desire is to play for the Grizzlies and I can't see him passing that up for one of the worse in the East. The Grizzliers could offer them a better package, with Swift (sign and trade also), Wells, Miller, Gooden etc.

That really wouldn't be too bad of a trade from my perspective. They get a power forward with tremendous potential in Drew Gooden. The kid has 20/10 capabilities written all over him and I think it is just a matter of time before he rises to his full potential and does that. But, than again, a move out West could really change that in some aspects. Cuttino Mobley would give them a good role player and very good shooter. He would really give them a shooting threat and that's always nice cause you can extend the defense with one. Cato, eh, back up center and that's about all. The only thing that could be terrible about this is they'd be losing Jason Richardson. The bad thing there is the fact that he's still young and he's really developed into a fairly nice player. I think he's only going to get better personally. And, like Warriorsfan said, a first round pick that could possibly be another lottery pick isn't too bad. So, overall, this wouldn't be a bad trade for the Warriors. They'd get a potential all star power forward in Gooden, a great shooter and role player in Mobley, a possible lottery pick, and a back u center. So, not too bad of a trade at all. Now, granted this is coming from a Laker fan's point of view who really is unsure of what you Warrior fans want, but, nonetheless, good trade to me.

^ I like the post you made over there, Warriorfansnc93. Usually I don't comment on trade rumors unless they've been substantiated a bit more. (I like Peter Vescey and I think he has some great sources in the league, but he throws around bad rumors sometimes)

They seem to be against the trade. The natural reaction for fans is to overvalue your own players. I.e., as you said, how much you love J-Rich. We see them work hard everyday.

Their major hangup is with Gooden's potential. Essentially we are looking at Damp for Gooden and Cato (or the pick) and we also make an extra push to get the cap to work and incentive for them to get younger by adding J-Rich. Mobley and J-Rich have been compared in earlier rumors (back before T-Mac went to Houston) and they do really have similar numbers. Compared with J-Rich, Mobley is a bit older, more of a slasher, and is smaller, but otherwise there's not much difference in the long run. I don't think it opens up the role for Pietrus just yet. Cato is a year younger than Damp and is more suited to a backup or defensive role at PF or C, he's not a total bust but he's certainly not a star, more of a role player. Gooden is just an enigma, wrapped in a cloud, surrounded by mystery, and smothered with secret sauce. Who knows what's going to happen with him?

One ramification of this trade would be that we'd probably be giving up on the "Yao" plan for 2005. Mobley's contract ends just like J-Rich, but Gooden runs through 2006-2007, and Cato has a fairly large contract (about 7 million a year) that also runs to 2006-2007. Thus we'd be looking at 2006-2007 as the first year we could add significant Free Agents.

I think Damp would like to play in Orlando. He is from MS, so it would be fairly close to home, he would a beast in the east, and Orlando could become a contender if they all play well together. Plus he got his paycheck. What more could he want? I like this deal better than the grizzlies deal.

Yeah, but Yao is not coming here. I wish he would, but Houston is not going to let him go.

Ha, you can keep dreaming about Yao, cause you're right, the Rockets won't let him leave any time soon I think. And, considering they brought in McGrady, and, with the tandem of Yao and Tracy potentially being one of the best 1-2 punches ever, Yao won't go anywhere. Only way he's leaving is via free agency when his contract runs out.

I'm still not sold on Gooden. If we wanted him so badly we should have gotten him instead of Doneleavy. Besides I love Jrich. Throw Dunleavy in that trade instead of Jrich and they got a deal.

After next year if the Rockets don't exercise Yao's option, they'll probably give him the same contract as JO and TD, 7 years 126 Million.

To clarify, the "Yao" plan means more than just Yao, but any major name free agents for the 2005-2006 season. I made a reference to it before in a post and I just sort of sum it up that way. I've also referenced Houston's rebuilding plans in recent posts, but I keep forgetting the amount of stuff we post here.

Obviously you made the point that there's an Isiah-Thomas "less than zero" percent chance that Yao will come here. My point which was probably not well developed is that we are not even looking at significant players in the FA market after this season. Which means, likely we will re-sign our players.

I don't think management cares whether fans love their players or not. They're trying to do what's best for the team, and if it's trading off a fan favorite, so be it. Cause, management will do whatever is in their power to make their team a contender again. I do believe JRich is a great player and will just get better, but, his prescence in a Golden State uni didn't win them many games last year. This trade could be for the best even though you're losing JRich. Cause, you bring in Gooden, who is a great, young power forward who is going to get better. You'll get a teriffic shooter in Mobley, another potential lottery pick with the pick Orlando gives you, and a good back up center with Cato. I think that is better than what you're giving in my opinion. Dampier is getting old, as he is 30, and has been inconsistent in his career thus far. JRich is a great young player who will get better, but, might not be what that franchise needs right now. Who knows. I do believe this trade is good for each side, even though you lose JRich, who to me, has a bright future in the NBA, but it may not be with the Warriors.

So Gooden will come off the bench in a Chris Gatling type role? Because he is not as good as Murph and can't guard the bigs.

I don't like that trade for number of reasons.

    1. Richardson is the only one in our team, who can create his shot relatively easily, and we still struggled to score. Without Richardson, Speedy probably will be the only one who can create his own shot. As much as people like Pietrus, he isn't still anywhere near to be a go to guy yet.

    2. So, basically with that deal, we downgrade our SG position, receive young PF when we have Murphy, who is more productive, and Bledine, and nice backup center. Getting Cato is nice (although I don't see why Olando would do that since they will have zero inside presence), I am not willing to sacrifice Richardson to fill that position.

    3. For years, people asked for a star player in this club, and Richardson is the closest thing we got, with seemingly unlimited upside. With that trade, we receive 3 good players, who will never be a star. We have plenty of good players and there is no reason to add 3 more.

    4. What exactly Gooden did so far? He had plenty of chances to show his ability for last two years. Instead of flourishing, he was traded once from West, Olando drafted Howard, and now he is yet again in the middle of trade rumor. There still is a chance that he may be a star someday. But, I am not willing to gamble when we can make the same gamble on Murphy and Bledine without paying any cost...

He's not even a true power forward in the West, the guy is a tweener. I never thought Mobley did jack but just dribble the ball. And Cato is okay. Only thing worthwhile is the first round pick IMO.

Besides like all those things Kwan said and he's getting better as well and he's doing more and more things that Gooden hasn't proved yet.

^ I agree totally with your analysis, Kwan. There's no major benefit to making this trade, at most it would be a lateral trade, or if Orlanda gave up the pick, it would be just to start rebuilding again.

By the way, it's spelled Biedrins (even though it's pronounced something like BEE-i-Drin-sche).

That is what I am saying. He wont even come here as a free agent. The only chance we have in getting him is if he wants to feel at home with all the chinese people in the bay area.

I for one do not like the trade at all. I thought that the general plan was to build around Troy Murphy, Jason Richardson, and Mike Dunleavy. Diverting from that plan may setback the Warriors in the long run. If Dampier is going to be traded via a sign and trade deal, then the Warriors should try to get players that will complement their young nucleus.

Forget the Gooden home angle. The only reason he comes up on the radar is his hometown of Richmond. He's okay but he's been traded already by Jerry West for Mike Miller. Plus, as already stated, we have Murphy and Cliffy along with Biedrins. Cato? Forget it.
