Hey all, There's been recent talk that Dixon may sign with the Sonics. Now, I'll be honest.. I watched league pass religiously and saw my share of Wizards games, but I don't know much about this guy. I remember seeing him put up a couple clutch performances (maybe even against our Sonics) but I didn't really follow him much at all. Thoughts? Do you guys feel he will be an asset to us? Is he a big loss to you guys? How would you compare him to Antonio Daniels? Strengths? Weaknesses?
He's a SG, not a PG, that's the first thing. He can't guard 2's, but he can guard PG's okay, not anything great, but average. He likes to shoot a lot, he's not much of a passer at all, and he's a good spark off the bench scorer.
Well he dropped 35 on the Bulls in the playoffs. What I have seen of him (probably less than you tradebark) is he is a pure scorer - I saw more of him at Maryland than I have at Washington, but he seems to have an ability to put the ball in the hoop and really heat up (unlike say Flip, who needs a lot of shots to be effective) on a high percentage. I assume he would be used to spell Luke at times, can he handle the rock? Not looking for a pure point, but someone who can pinch hit there for 10 minutes a game.
I havent seen him play much either but he seems like a great shooter i remember game 4 against the Heat he almost led the team to an amazing comeback.

While he can get hot and be a good spark, he's mainly a chucker when he comes off the bench. Even just looking at his FG% by year: 02-03: 38.4% FG | 29.8% 3PT 03-04: 38.8% FG | 29.8% 3PT 04-05: 41.6% FG | 32.7% 3PT You call Flip a guy who needs a lot of shots because you see him every game basically, and Dixon a guy that shoots a high percentage because you likely only see his good games. If Dixon was on the Sonics, you'd think very differently, and he's far from being a "good shooter".
You've got me there, it seems everytime I see a good game from Dixon he's lit it up from the floor, but those stats prove otherwise. Must be very inconsistant.
No biggie, I was never much of a fan of Dixon because of his inconsistency, he can win you ball games at times when he get's hot, but he's far from a guy you can rely on night in and night out.
Ben Gordan's shooting % isn't too great either, but he's still considered a good shooter. He shoots 41% from the floor which is the same as Dixon. Just throwing that out at you guys.
Ben Gordon also shoots 40.5% from 3PT range, and get's to the line at an okay rate, 5.4 FTA/40 mins. He's also a guy you can rely on most nights, and is usually there in the clutch. Add to that the fact that he's a rookie, and it's not really a comparison. Juan Dixon has shot over 30% from 3PT range once in his career which was this year, he get's to the line 3.7 times PER 40 mins, and is very inconsistent as a 27 year old 3rd year player. He has heart, and he's a guy that will always keep trying no matter the deficit, but he's not that good. <u>eFG%-TS%</u> Juan Dixon: .470% | .507% Ben Gordon: .474% | .514%
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting RealGM:</div><div class="quote_post">Washington Post - The Washington Post is reporting that free agent guard Juan Dixon and the Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a three-year contract worth around $8 million, according to Dixon's agent, Calvin Andrews. Contracts can't be officially signed until the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement is ratified, which should be early next week. Dixon, a Baltimore native, was selected with the 17th overall pick of the 2002 NBA draft by the Wizards after starring at the University of Maryland, where he led the Terrapins to the 2002 NCAA championship. Dixon finished his college career as Maryland's all-time leading scorer. In three seasons with the Wizards Dixon played in 176 games, had 23 starts and averaged 8.2 points and 1.6 assists. </div> Dixon Leaving Washington
