Both wore the same number in Orlando. I am bored right now. So I made this dumb thread...Wad ya'll think about it. T-mac and Penny (prime) Who was a better Magic? Stats will come later, I'm bushed!!
I really think it would be Penny, just because of the fact that they won more ballgames and he competed at a less selfisk level than T-Mac did. But T-Mac is right there behind him.
I think T-Mac would have chewed up Penny anyday, Penny had a lot of options on his team, Nick Anderson at the 2, Dennis Scott, Horace Grant and do i even have to mention Shaquille Oneal
I would say t-mac. T-mac never had the luxury of playing with a big man even near as close to shaq in talentwise. but still penny hardaway was still great becaue if shaq was haveing an off day he could dominate.
Penny was more of a complete player but T-Mac is much better offensively. Penny would have never been the scoring champion even if he stayed healthy.
Penny EASILY, 10 times more valuable than TMAC! Since the Shaq trade... He has never recovered. R.I.P. Penny.
hey sup all? i'm new to this board.... but i think that penny would be more valuable. he actually made the players around him better and plus he doesn't force as many shots as t-mac.
Penny Hardaway... great player ... could pass, cause so many mis-matches for any other guard... rebound, steal, score when needed... I am sure people remember those consecutive 40pt games against the Heat... where he averaged 31ppg in the playoffs... lol and the Heat used 5 separate defenders in that one game, still didnt work lol... overall in his career, he plays better in the playoffs... in basically every major category... pts, rebs, asst... he actually ranks in the top 5 for any NBA player in terms of 'stepping up' come playoff time... He carried the Suns past the defending Champions, the Spurs, he also had a triple double in one of those games  , after losing to LA in the 2nd round... he averaged 25pts against 'Kobe'... (this was in 2000, not so long ago, implying that I still think he has alot of game in him.... 16pts, 5rebs, 5asst against Nets this year!) he truly was one of the greats at his time ... people shouldnt say 'prime' due to the fact that, by the time he was a 2 time All Star... player of the Month Award winner... 2 Time All NBA First Team and shooting 50%+ fg, (by the way beating out John Stockton, and Richmond for those starting positions) he was ONLY in his 3rd NBA season... ^ quite a telling sign for the future... (too bad for the knee injuries) just a quick note... 1990-96 MJ most favourite athlete, no one knocked him off for 6 years straight untill Penny and his game came along, voted most favourite athlete that following year... wow, never knew someone could be more popular than MJ himself! granted he couldnt score as well as T-Mac, BUT he was better at making his team mates better... had great court vision, great mid range game and so on... People say 'he had Shaq' etc... entering the 1995-96 season... both Horace Grant/ Shaq are out due to pre-season injuries... hence no big man or more appropriatley big 'men'... after 22 games into the season Orlando Magic 17 wins / 5 losses... Penny grabs Player of the Month for November... within that month... 30+ pts against MJ and the Bulls, grab the win... 2 buzzer beating wins... one game he scored 8 pts in the final two minutes for the Magic... sending the game to OT, and hit the buzzer beater to win it against Portland... and a couple of 30+pt games somewhere in between ... so much for that "Shaq made him good" theory... :thumbsdow true Shaq helped his game, but Penny helped Shaq's game as well, who else would chuck those lobs for him... T-Mac is a monster scorer... but 62pts against a bad defensive team like the Wizards... questionable... let his team lose 19 straight... and can put 50pts and still lose (Orlando vs Denver)... something tells me if Penny was putting 50pts... not only would the Magic win, but someone else would have had a 20pt + game alongside him... Penny made a second round appearance unlike T-Mac... dont get me wrong I like T-Mac... but Penny was a better player for the Orlando Magic franchise... as alot of people put it down to winning... its simple... under Penny, the Magic won more games... even when Shaq left... Just for the record in my opinion IF Penny was injury free, right now easily still a top 5 SG...
Tmac of course. PEnny didn't have to be selfish because he had quality players to support him (shaq, Anderson, Scott, D Arm). Tmac produced for the magic way more than Penny did. How long did his career last? two -three years and he was done. This is what penny and tmac did during their year as a magic TMAC G MP FG FGA 3P 3PA FT FTA ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TO PF PT 75 39.4 11.1 24.2 2.3 6.0 7.7 9.7 1.6 4.9 6.5 5.5 1.7 0.8 2.6 2.1 32.1 Penny G MP FG FGA 3P 3PA FT FTA ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TO PF PT 82 36.8 7.6 14.8 1.1 3.5 5.4 7.1 1.6 2.7 4.3 7.1 2.0 0.5 2.8 2.0 21.7
I believe truly that penny was better than tmac bepending on how you look at it. If you think thats tell the whole story like some people you look them up and say yeah tmac has the better thats so he is better. Well he is not imo because stats are often to looked at when comparing two players. Penny had to play with players that two were in there prime like shaquille Oneal and Horance Grant. Oneal averaged well over 20 points in his time with the magic and grant was a very good pl;ayer as well since he was at the start of his career before age and injuries took there toll. Penny still with those two good players on the team managed to have 21 points a game and lead the team with his great leadership and attitude to the game. Tmac on the other hand had no one average over 15 points play with him for a full season. He never had a good second option on the team let alone a third option with hills injury and when mike miller was traded they lost any chance they had at having a good second scoring option. Also penny although with the help of shaq and grant big help I wont even try and say penny did it by him self did help the magic reach the finals while tmac never even got them out of the first round of the playoffs. Even after being up 3-1 on the number 1 seed. So look at leadership and what they did with scorers around them and penny is without no question the better player in my mind.
What happened to Penny once Shaq left, he became a nobody and didnt make anyone better. Pat Garrity and Andrew Decerq were on the starting lineup for three straight years and T-Mac took them to the Playoffs. THere is no other team that they could have started on . They had success cause of T-Mac . When Tracy was in Toronto Vince was being called the best 2 guard in the league because Tracy took a lot of pressure of him. So its not fair to say Tracy doesnt make players around him better
penny with out a doubt i think if never been injuried he would of been one of the top players today and yao vince was the best 2 guard in the league the year he left when the sixers went to the finals then he fell wit a injury its just like penny
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">What happened to Penny once Shaq left, he became a nobody and didnt make anyone better.</div> did you read my post regarding no Shaq/ Horace Grant? I also disagree when you say he became nobody... he was still being an All Star, and still making ALL NBA Teams... so... The lockout season 1999 another example... he helped the Magic to 33-17 I think it was... and they gained equal best record in the East... and that was with a Issac Austin as C....
