Now we are entering the Flip era. Let's see how it goes! Bellotti recruited Oregon standouts such as quarterback Darron Thomas, running back LaMichael James, wide receiver Jeff Maehl and middle linebacker Casey Matthews, but he takes "absolutely zero credit" for the Ducks' success this season. Bellotti said, "I put these guys in a place a couple years ago, and they have done a great job building off that." Bellotti hired Chip Kelly from New Hampshire in 2007 to be the offensive coordinator, and Kelly was named coach-in-waiting before the 2009 Holiday Bowl. Most of Bellotti's coaching staff from his final season of 2008 remains intact. http://www.statesmanjournal.com/art...00325/Bellotti-takes-no-credit-team-s-success
Chip was the main recruiter of Darron Thomas. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowls10/news/story?id=5995924 STOMP
And I hardly doubt LaMichael James would have come (or stayed) at Oregon if Gary Campbell wasn't here.
“Mike hired me,’’ Kelly said. “He hired every other coach on staff except for Mark Helfrich, who I brought in after I became the head coach. “So he has got a huge footprint, huge impact on this whole program.’’
What's the point of this thread, Targus? Are you simply trying to remind us that Belotti was a good coach, recruiter, and program builder (which nobody has disputed), or are you primarily trying to tell us that you don't believe that Chip Kelly has proven his own ability in any of those areas?
Neither was Chung or Thurmond but in all seriousness, Dungy may not have been top 150 recruits or something, but had some decent offers from Florida State, and USF.
Gary Campbell recruited LMJ, and LMJ Tweeted yesterday that Chip was by far the best coach he's had. Kind of a back-handed slap at Bellotti, if you ask me. I can't blame Mike for feeling a bit underappreciated, but Chip has made Oregon an elite program and a national brand. We were never elite under Bellotti.
also LMJ never played in a game under Bellotti, I know that he was the HC when LMJ signed. But IMO Kelly was LMJ's college coach, not Bellotti. I am thankful for the years Bellotti put into this program. Brooks laid the foundation, Bellotti built the house, and Kelly is decorating it with kick ass trophies and banners!
I think everybody is thankful for Bellotti. Difference is, some of us are thankful for Chip as well, and aren't bashing the guy for ultimately staying at Oregon. If Targus is indicative of any widespread thought among his "power brokers", maybe Chip should have left for the NFL.
ok I know we joke about HCP's wife and stuff like that, but it really doesnt seem to bother him. If it did, I'm sure staff would ask it to cease. PapaG has asked his name and family members be left out of posts. Please respect that. Same goes for everyone going after eachothers family in any real or imaginary problems they might be going through, or that you feel they are going through.
I can agree with that, and things did get out of control the other night with NateBishop. Let's just leave family members, spouses/girlfriends included, alone. Nate, I'm sorry, and I'm sure you'd agree that everybody was jacked up Sunday night with the Kelly story.
I thought that was just his stage name. "Now coming to stage 3--put your hands together for Lil Rico!"
is it scary that I came into this thread to post that people can use my real name... Guillermino (Gee-yer-mee-no) and Sly's ... Gaylord. Sly we think too much alike sometimes. Why you broke up with me I will never know!
