Liverpool are 21 points behind Manchester Utd - No arguments here. But to those who are convinced that the gap between Liverpool and the league leaders will only increase: 2004: Liverpool: 60 Arsenal: 90 Gap: 30 2005: Liverpool: 58 Chelsea: 95 Gap: Although we won the Champions league that season many fans mocked the 37 point gap and insisted that the gap between Liverpool and the league leaders would increase. However: 2006: Liverpool: 82 Chelsea: 91 Gap: 9 I'm not saying that the gap is guaranteed to go down, or necessarily that Liverpool will win the title next year. Rather, it's not impossible for a team to drastically improve, just like it wasn't impossible for Liverpool to fall away so badly this season. Underestimate us at your peril!
So the last 4 years including now are 30, 37, 9, 21. Then if you go back 3 years before that it was a similar pattern, and 3 times I think this decade you have finished 5th. I for one NEVER rule out Liverpool for any of the cups, as they can produce the goods on a big night at Anfield. But, they are not consistent enough to win the league and I have to say that next season the favourites for the Premiership (even if man utd win it this season) are as follows: Chelsea, then Utd, then Arsenal, then Liverpool and Spurs. Then take your pick from Bolton, Newcastle, maybe Villa, Everton, Pompey etc.
