My friend keeps saying how much the Pau trade for Kwame was bullshit. And if Lakers win the chip, it would be unfair. And I keep saying it was a good trade because, including Marc, they recieved three first round picks. I know Marc was a 2nd rounder, but he's really been playing like a lottery-pick. So I'm making the argument that if Lakers winning the chip doesn't count because of Pau, then does team X deserve a chip for doing an equally uneven trade for player Y? My examples were... Dr. J from Nets to Sixers for 3 million. Wilt Chamberlain (twice) Dennis Rodman (I believe twice) Kareem Abdul-Jabber Moses Malone Rasheed Wallace Clyde Drexler Mo Williams (probably eventually) I also added in Charles Barkley (twice) and Vince Carter to Nets for basically just two draft picks (should their 49-win season in 05-06 be deemed bullshit?). Can you guys help me out with more uneven trades?
I laugh when people say the Pau trade was a gift from David Stern. Yeah, really... When haters talk about the Lakers, they always bring up how big of a choke artist Pau is for not winning a single playoff game for Memphis. About how soft and how much of a pussy he is. Then you bring up this trade, and they say it was just a ploy by David Stern? Lakers didn't give up enough? Really? For a supposed soft pussy who can't win big games? Pretty hilarious. I think Kwame Brown, 9 million dollars expiring contract, along with one of the top rookies this year, Marc Gasol, a young, promising prospect in Javaris Crittenton, along with 2 future 1st round picks, one which ended up being Darrell Arthur, is more than enough for a soft pussy. Especially since Memphis was looking to clear up cap and rebuild. But as for your question, no I can't really think of anything. Sorry. Pretty funny how the Cavs get an allstar caliber player for nothing, and nobody bitches. Mo Williams for Damon Jones and Joe Smith, who is back with Cleveland? That's a big steal.
In terms of talent its obviously in favor of the Lakers. Everyone doesnt grasp the idea that Memphis wasnt trying to get IMMEDIATELY better. They were going for the future. The Pau as their #1 had run its course and they needed something new. The best trade that was offered besides the Lakers one was from the Bulls in which they were offering young players with inflated contracts. Memphis was interested in picking their own players with cap room flexibility rather than a group of another teams so-so players. This trade accomplished exactly what MEM wanted
At the time there were also a lot of cheap owners who didn't want to pay luxury tax or gamble too much on what they thought was a fringe all-star.
whatever happened to brian grant? and why was he payed that much money? just thinking about that shaq trade, i mean we got odom and caron, which got us kwame, which got us pau. plus if shaq stayed, kobe would be outa town, and then where would we be, probobly where phoenix are right now. so i dissagree, shaq trade was good for both sides.
lol He used to be good with the Heat. He's retired now. I actually didn't mind Grant, just hated his contract. He was alright with us.
