I never considered Dallas on the same level with the Lakers and Jazz anyway.

Speaking the truth. So far at 2-4, the Mavs are looking very weak in the Western Conference.

Who the hell is Chris Kaman to be talking about who is good and who isn't?! He isn't a top player and he isn't on a top team.

I bet Dirk might be regretting that conversation with Kaman, but nothing too damaging seems to have come out of it.

Kaman really doesn't have any room to speak since his Clipps look like they could be cellar dwellers again this year, but he is right. The Mavs just aren't the elite team they were a few years back.

And to be honest, is there any team playing on the same level as the Lakers? They're 5-0...and they've yet to have a really great shooting night, plus their defense has been one of the best in the NBA thus far.

The Lakers are alone at the top now after proving themselves yet again against New Orleans. As for the Mavs, they've been disappointing but did anyone really expect them to do as well as the Lakers or the Hornets?

Well, I would think psycho-biased Mavs fans would have expected it. I mean...their team didn't change from a 50+ win team last year, and they did add a new coach who would implement a different offense that would work more towards their strengths...so, I guess there could have been reason for optimism there.

But if you really believed they'd be better than the Lakers...that's called being delusional.

I think KAman referred to the chemistry factor.

On paper the Mavs look like a serious contender with Kidd, Terry, Howard, Dirk, but then again... Paper does not dictate chemistry and performance.

On paper the Mavs don't look nearly as good as the Lakers. Their starting five is solid and all...but their bench isn't up to snuff with LAs. It's not even close actually.

They lost the Bulls. No offense to Chicago, but a contender for the championship shouldn't be losing to those kinds of teams.
