<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">PORTLAND, Ore. - The rap against Denver Nuggets coach George Karl is he and young players mix about as well as Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal.

Seattle coach Nate McMillan, who played for Karl on the SuperSonics, says Karl is "not a developer." Seattle guard Ray Allen, who once played for Karl in Milwaukee, laughed when asked about Karl and young players.

"(Karl) has patience," Allen said. "He just doesn't acknowledge younger players."

Karl, though, disputed that notion before Denver's game Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers.

"I don't think it's true," he said. "I think it's blown out of proportion. Name me a player other than Eric Snow, who didn't play and turned out to be a real good player."

    How about Milwaukee's Michael Redd?

"He played with me the next year," Karl said. "Good young players I play. It's kind of the late first-round picks (he doesn't)."

After joining the SuperSonics as a second-round pick in 1995, Snow barely got off the bench during his first 21/2 seasons. He then was traded to Philadelphia, where he blossomed.

"I learned a lot from him, his staff and the team I was on," said Snow, now with the Cleveland Cavaliers. "You have to compete, you have to play hard, you have to bring a certain level of toughness to play for him." </div>
