For those that do not know that the City Counsel had their PGE/Memorial Stadium vote today....the Blazer VP of business JE something or another spoke.....he sounded like he was in favor of the MLS but big BUTT he then did a 180 turn around and back stabbed Paulson. What issue did the Blazers back stab the Timbers, a great enemy of the flounders from shittle which allen owns a part, on the stadium because the blazers want full control of the rosie quarter, they acted like the MC was owned by the blazers....wrong! Why cant the blazers work with the timbers to create a great summer time event area cus they dont want to share the pie that Paulson created. greedy and backstabbing they cant handle there being more than one real pro team in this city and tried to bully the council. I lost a lot of respect for the blazers today.....and mr allen....thus I care less about the season as of today. KARMA.
From the Oregon Stadium Campaign, this is THE reason, IMO: Business is business. It's cut throat sometimes.
well this time the blazer look dirty and failed to block it...i hope the city and merrit stuff it to the blazers and say OI its our land we will do what we want with it. The business was a veiled threat to leave portland by the blazers....lame. The stadium could have an event area, the blazers only came up with this stupid amusuement block BECAUSE of the plan by Merrit! What really pissed me off while the blazers where planted the knife in the back i was wearing an old school starter blazers jacket. lame. I am tired of Portland being a 3 horse town but thinking and being bullied into being a one horse town.
From what I gathered after watching most of the meeting, the Trail Blazers are only against having the new baseball stadium being built where the MC is. They arent against the MLS coming to Portland. I personally would rather have the "entertainment district" over a new baseball stadium for a minor league team that doesnt draw much of a crowd. What's lame is you puting your own uninformed spin on it. http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2009/03/soccer_deal_okd_short_some_gre.html
I have not been following this as i do not live in Portland. But what size of a ball parlk are we talking about? Can they expand it if a Major league team wants to move there?
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.. the curse of MLS is what hit the Blazers last night... so when MLS folds is that the Blazers Brass' fault?
I was pissed about this too, but not necessarily because the Blazers were against it. What pissed me off about the whole thing was they told Merritt Paulson and their own developer Cordish Companies and the City that they supported this entire effort, including bringing AAA baseball stadium to the Rose Quarter. And then during the public testimony yesterday J.E. Isaac was against the plan. It was a totally slimy way to handle the whole situation, in my opinion. I get it that the Blazers want to be the only horse in town, but why try to stab the deal in the back after you had been promoting it for the past six months? -Pop
I can't see how it has anything to do with wanting to be "the only horse in town". The Beavers are already in town. The Blazers aren't looking for them to leave. It is the Beavers, not the MLS team, that would be in the Rose Quarter.
I really don't care about MLS... and I think it's a horrible idea to put a baseball stadium anywhere in the Portland city limits. Buy some farm land and put it out in Hillsboro or something. I don't believe there's enough parking to handle MLB downtown.
Wow, you have been to the OSC site? I used to be a regular on the forums there. That place is DEAD now! Too bad, I would have loved to get an MLB team... Yes, the plan is to make it so one day, if MLB comes knocking, that it could be upgraded. I think the Rose Quarter would offer up great views of downtown and Mt. Hood for a baseball stadium. I would love to get the look Pittsburgh has with PNC Park or downtown or St. Louis has with the Arch and their downtown.
