<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Nets should not deal Jason Kidd or Vince Carter before next week's trade deadline, not when the offers around the league could fill a three-car garage with frayed and splintered junk. Rod Thorn needs to hold still now, needs to let this team make whatever run it can in an Eastern Conference that looks as wide open as a shooter working against a Boston Celtics zone.

Then he needs to trade Richard Jefferson in the summer.

Nothing personal, just business. Kidd is about to turn 34, his back hurts and he's making $18 million this season, $19.7 next season and $21.4 million the season after that. The contenders interested in Kidd want to steal him. They are only willing to dump some garbage on Thorn's lawn in exchange for an aging, salary-cap-choking playmaker who makes all sorts of short-term sense. </div>
