<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">New Piston Kelvin Cato spent most of Tuesday with team doctors, who are still trying to get a handle on his right foot and ankle injuries. But even if his body isn't willing to contribute right now, his heart is.

"This is the best opportunity you can be in right now," he said. "There are only four teams people are talking about. To be on one of them is one of the best things you could possibly do, especially in my ninth year."
Cato, a 6-foot-11 center, came to the Pistons with a No. 1 pick last week from Orlando for Darko Milicic and Carlos Arroyo.

"It's all about getting a ring, but I want to contribute," he said. "I want to help, even if it's just in practices. If the help is in practice and that's all I need to do, then that's all I need to do. I think my opportunity on the floor will be when Flip (Saunders) says, 'Go ahead and get out there.' "

The Pistons made no secret that they acquired Cato as much for his $8.6 million salary, which comes off the books in July, as for his services on the court. There is no certainty that Cato, 31,will be healthy enough to contribute. President Joe Dumars is exploring the possibility of using him to facilitate another trade, probably for a point guard.

But moving Cato won't be easy. The Pistons would have to either trade him to a team with cap space (Charlotte and Chicago are among the few) or get back a player or players whose salary equals the $8.6 million -- and Dumars is only looking for players in the final year of their deal.

"I don't think they'd give me my name on the wall (locker) if they were going to get rid of me," Cato said. "If it happens, they've got two more days (before Thursday's trade deadline) to make it happen. We'll see."
Coach Flip Saunders wouldn't mind having another big body on his bench.

"Jeff Van Gundy (Rockets coach, for whom Cato once played) said we'd be surprised at the things he can do," Saunders said. "Is he a great offensive player? No. But he can block shots and rebound and he's a lot bigger than you would think. He's real long. ? Jeff said if you can get him healthy and in shape, he can help us a lot down the stretch."</div>
