link "The World's Most Dangerous Man" and UFC Hall-of-Famer Ken Shamrock, 43, and his eldest son Ryan, 19, have signed multi-fight deals with fighting promotion EliteXC. Ken is a 40-fight veteran and former UFC Superfight title holder. Ken began his MMA career shortly before the birth of the UFC in 1993, competing in Pancrase 1-4. Ken competed in UFC 1 defeating Patrick Smith in the first round but losing to would-be-champion Royce Gracie in the semi-finals. A few years later at UFC 5 the two fighters would have a rematch, a classic fight that ended in a draw after an amazing 36-minutes. Later that year Ken defeated Dan "The Beast" Severn to win the UFC Superfight title. During his career Shamrock has defeated the likes of Bas Rutten, Maurice Smith, and Matt Hume. Ken retired from MMA in 1996 after defeating Brian Johnston at Ultimate Ultimate 2, but returned in 2000 to face Kazuyuki Fujita in PRIDE. An out of shape Shamrock was forced to forfeit the fight after close to seven minutes due to exhaustion. Since his return in 2000 Shamrock's career has been rocky with a 3-7 record. Shamrock has been knocked out in the first round of his last four fights. Ken currently runs the Lion's Den in training centres in Reno, Nevada and Dallas, Texas. Notable fighters with this organization include TUF veterans Travis Lutter and Mikey Burnett, as well as UFC veterans Tra Telligman, Petey Williams, and Vernon White. During the brief period in which Ken was a member of the WWF, the Lion's Den nearly folded, but since his return to MMA the club has been rebuilt. Ken has announced his intentions to coach a Lion's Den team for the IFL starting next season. Shamrock's eldest son Ryan is a newcomer to the sport. A bantamweight (135-lbs) fighter, Ryan has a professional record of 1-0.
