nooooooooooooooooooooooooot buying the hype from mr. over the hill. 'buzz' berry just whooped your ass ken... whothe hell is Buzz Berry???
*cough* Ken is what 44? and hasn't won 3 of 12 fights since 1996? Ken is trying to hype the fight and make people think that he still has gas left in the tank. Kimbo by KO.
I think Ken Shamrock tells everyone that he'll break their legs. Kimbo will knock this guy out and it will be entertaining.
I have to agree, he does pretty much tell everyone he is going to break their leg or their face, or something else to that impact. I can't really dislike him, or think bad for him saying it. Yeah, it is a 99% chance it won't happen, but he should go in thinking that. You don't want someone going into a fight thinking "I might win this, I might not, but you know what, I'm just here to get paid." You have to have that thought you will win, that thought that you are better than them, or what good is it fighting them if you already know your going to loose.
I do agree with the principal that every fighter should be confident that they're going to win the fight, but Shamrock makes so much noise and pretty much everyone knows he's beyond washed up, it's just so fake when he says it. He's a charlatan of the highest degree and it's annoying to see him get such a high profile fight on National TV because casual fans will think he's still 'The World's Most Dangerous Man', when he's really MMA's most washed up fighter.
Yeah, Shamrock is 44. Yeah he talks a lot. I do believe him though about Kimbo. I think he matches up well against him. Kimbo is also a bunch of hype. This match will just let us know who is more over-hyped.
OKay I don't know alot about MMA and I have some questions. Kimbo Slice, he fights in a league that's called EliteXC right? and he doesn't fight in the UFC? Do you think that Kimbo can take a fighter from the UFC? Someone like Liddell or someone else in his weight class?
yes they are two different leagues. Some leagues will share fighters, "you send me a guy I'll send you one" to fight on each other's fight cards. The UFC has a near monoply on the sport as to many ppl, UFC=MMA. So they refuse to share their fighters like that because they have nothing to gain from it. If their guy wins, he's supposed to and if he loses it makes the UFC look not as dominant. Kimbo Slice is a raw MMA fighter with decent hands. He's dropped some guys, but they were either A: not very good or B: Over the hill (Tank Abbott). I don't think he would last long versus the top light heavy weights or the top Heavy Weights. He would most likely not fave a LHW like Chuck Liddell or Wanderali Silva because they fight at 205 Lbs and Slice fights at 235. If he continues to train at a good camp like he does now, then he could become a solid fighter. But right now he has zero ground game and the first decent wrestler or BJJ fighter he faces will expose this weakness. Elite XC is 'protecting' Kimbo by giving him easy fights against bad or older fighters and what he could become is going to be a question mark until he faces a legit fighter, like Brett Rogers who fights for Elite XC and has called Kimbo out. Kimbo would fight him no doubt, but Kimbo winning fights = ratings and money for Elite XC so they're going to put him in fights he should probably win. If he did fight say Gabrielle Gonzaga of the UFC, I think it'd be over in 3-4 mins with Gonzaga tapping him out. Chuck's great counter striking would be too good and precise for Kimbo as well. He'd get picked apart.
Cool, thanks for the explanation, i watched Kimbo when he fought the guy with the inflated ear (the fight that was on tv). I started thinking, if he fought like this against a decent UFC fighter he wouldn't last long and wouldn't even be close to how popular he is right now. But i can't blame him, who knows if he'll ever step into UFC
If he ever fights in the UFC, they'll feed him top competition right away, probably wrestlers/BJJ guys just to see him lose. A fight with Cheick Kongo would be interesting as he's a primairly stand up fighter so that MAY do something like that. Chances are he'll stay with Elite XC until if folds (and if their next show on CBS does low ratings, it most likely will) and then end up in Japan or with Affliction IMO.
Have to agree there, they like to test guys that are new, or different to the sport. Much like they did with Brock Lesnar, handing him Frank Mir and Heath Herring in his first two fights. Two very tough guys, and two that would be a handful for anyone. So I would definately see them handing Kimbo some hard fights also.
