Bad week for Ken Shamrock so far. His adopted brother Frank recently accused him of cutting himself to get out of his fight with Kimbo Slice--a move that knocked over the first domino in the complete collapse of that company (one he never even fought for!)--and now he has tested positive for steroids following his shitshow win over Ross Clifton at Wargods. Kenny will be suspended and won't face Bobby Lashley at March Badness later this month. http://mmamania.com/
Well Frank definitely doesn't like Ken, so I'll take his word with a grain of salt. However I do agree this is a blessing in disguise, Ken probably would have had a big beatdown from Lashley, who is a collegiate wrestler, is younger, much stronger than Ken at this point and even than Ken in his prime, and probably will have better cardio than Ken. The only thing Ken has on him right now, is probably has submission experience.
In terms of the guy wants to make money, he might not be lol. He probably can draw some fans who are just curious. Unless he fights other 44 year olds that are a step slower, then yes.
any takers on a bet that Ken shows up in Japan to fight ignoring the suspension??? I could easily see that happening.
Just in California, I believe. However, 99.9% of the time, other state's athletic commissions will honor that suspension.
yeah that's the way it works. The other states honor the suspension and if a fighter fights outside the country, they usually add to the banning and they have to meet with the athletic commission who banned them before being reinstate. Ken can say the hell with it and go and Fight 1-2 times in Japan for a payday and retire and not have to worry about it. The Japanese orgs will not worry about the banning as they don't test for vitamin S.
I don't know if there would be much of a demand for Ken in Japan. Japanese interest in mma has apparently faded some since Pride. Anyway, with Pride here is what they were getting paid: From Pride 33 in 2007 they had to give salary information to NSAC.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pride_33 I'm guessing he might get something like 30 000 if there was an org even interested in him. He wouldn't be nearly as well known as Mark Coleman over there who won Pride's first GP. I'm guessing his name is bigger in the States and is more likely to get a bigger payday here.
But with the struggles, bringing in Ken for a legend vs legend fight is something that would draw the ratings in Japan. Ken did fight over there a few yrs ago vs Sakuraba and he got KO'd. The japanese fans want the sport aspect, but they want the spectacle and freakshow fights too.
