Steve Kerr said it Friday...Richard Jefferson says it every day: The Nets are among 10 teams who could win it all this season. In his annual NBA preview, Kerr says there is a good possibility a new champion will be crowned in June and that the league is entering a period of real parity. Eddie Johnson of Hoopshype says roughly the same thing in his column, listing the Nets among 12 teams who could do it in June. And AP's annual preview explains why it is a reasonable assumption</div>

I wouldn't put it past them, but they still need a force down low imo.

We are one of the most underrated teams. We have three greats stars, a young big man who is developing a nice game, and a good bench with young stars and key players. Our frontcourt and defense may not be the best, but every team has their problems. I think we have a great chance of making it to the finals and winning.

Kidd is on the decline big time. 3 perimeter players aren't a good threesome to help a team deep into the playoffs. I love carter, but he isn't a winner. With Chicago balancing the power a little, i'd have to say Miami, Chicago, and Detroit are on another level.

I know it's preseason but if you watched Kidd play against the Knicks, he didn't look 33. He was constantly running and trying to set up a fastbreak. And he finished with 6 pts 10 rebs and 9 asts. He may be on a tiny decline, but people make it out to be like he doesn't bring anything to the Nets.

i think the nets are actually pretty overrated imo. outside of thier big 3 they really dont have anything. i think marcus williams is going to get really good, really fast, but outside of him they really dont have any other bright spots. kirstic is ok, but the only reason he'll be a "top 10 center" next year is because its a weak position. for the nets to be good he needs to be a defensive force in the paint and get at least 4 more boards a game. i dont see at all how people are saying that the nets are "contenders".

Krstic is good. He can shoot well from the outside and score well in the paint. How many big men can do both? He needs to bulk up and improve his defense and then he will become a huge threat.
He is one of the few big men that has a bright future. So I really don't see how he is just ok.

right now he is just ok. maybe as the season progresses he will become more. but which do the nets need more, a soft big guy that can shoot the mid to long range j or a tough rebounding shot blocker?

He has played for only 2 seasons and is already considered one of the best big men. If he was ok, then he wouldn't be one of the best. He would just be considered another big men.

Just because he isn't exactly what the Nets are need doesn't make him bad. He is a big part of the Nets but I do agree it would be a better situation if he was a defensive shotblocker and rebounder like B.Wallace.

What's your basis for this? His age? His stats? He led the NBA last season in triple doubles with 8. His scoring may have gone down a bit. But Kidd is a passer first before anything else. His assists, rebounds and steals per game has been consistent. He came off surgery. And he has Carter and Jefferson to take care of the scoring. Kidd still delivers during clutch situations. And most importantly, his leadership. Please check your facts before making outrageous statements.

Kidd might be old but when that guy gets his triple-doubles, he doesn't look old. Does your team have a triple-double threat that plays PG? My team doesn't. I wouldn't mind Kidd at his age because he is a very good teammate. Nenad is good and I see him doing better this season and having a good year. He is one of the top 10 centers in the league. He is also getting more depth now that they drafted Josh Boone.

its really too early to judge how good kidd will be this year. there is no question that he is on the decline, but his impact will still be just as important this year as in previous ones. i think the major dropoffs for him this year will be in scoring, and rebounding, but his assists should still be around 8. while i do like the nets, i still think they are just the best team in the worst division in the nba.

His minutes will likely be going down with Marcus Williams coming in, but I think that's a good thing. If he only has to play 30mpg this year, he's going to be able to play a lot harder and faster in those 30mpg. I think he and Marcus Williams will be having this team running a lot more this year and I expect a better season than last year for Kidd, and maybe even a ROY campaign for Marcus depending on his PT.
