I heard this on ESPN radio the other night, they reported a rumor the TWolves have opened up the possibility of trading Kevin Garnett. With the disappointing season and the problems they are having with Spree & Cassell's contracts, the TWolves are considering blowing up this team and starting over. One of the proposed deals was Chandler, Curry, and Heinrich for KG. If the TWolves cannot get back on track and work out the contract issues with Cassell and Spree, should they begin rebuilding and trade KG?
I'm a Wolves fan, and I think that they would have to be on crack to be thinking about getting rid of KG. I realize that Curry, Chandler and Heinrich have a lot going for them, Heinrich in particular, but that trade would be insane. The wolves need to get rid of Spree, Sam, and Olawakandi, maybe that could be the trade instead. I don't think KG would want to be in a rebuilding situation. They could just try to sign some free agents over the summer, but I think KG's massive contract hurts that chance unfortunately. They just need to find some good role players to make the team better, not blow the team up.
Not a chance...not a chance That would be insanity to trade one of the best players in the game. BTW, that a terrible trade for KG.
Yeah I was shocked to hear they would even consider trading KG, but the TWolves could be in trouble after this season if they cannot put things together. KG's enormous contract makes it tough for the TWolves to make any off-season moves. They will be at $46.5M next season, and they will have to make some tough decisions on their free agents, Spree, T-Hud, Ervin Johnson, Mark Madsen, Anthony Carter, and Eddie Griffin. They won't be able to bring back everyone and Garnett has yet to prove he can lead a team into the Finals. With the way the TWolves are playing this year, they might be asking themselves if it's time to start over.
There is absolutely no way we would ever trade Garnett. Whoever wrote that article, which I did read is on crack. We are struggling right now, but we are still a high caliber team. It is way too early to give up and start rebuilding. It is just a joke. And, if we would ever trade him, there is only about one guy I would take in return, Tim Duncan.
Kevin Garnett being traded especially at the level he is right now is a highly doubtful situation. If anything the Timerbwolves organization should look to trade Sam & Spree for another superstar like player. I remember sometime last season there was word that Kevin McHale pondered about acquiring Allen Iverson. (Imagine the possibilities btw) However those speculations were shot down when McHale bluntly said he has no interest for Iverson. But looking at the state of the Timberwolves right now, I say that they should look to get rid of Spree & Sam for another potential superstar. Perhaps Michael Redd or some sort? And from there they should possibly look to get a decent big man to play the Center because ?The Candy Man? can?t seem to get it done. Well whatever the Timberwolves are going to do, they need to do it fast. I'm very sure that something will be done by the All-Star break. Whether it's a coaching change (this has been speculated as well), roster change etc., something will/should be done. Heading into this season the Timerwolves were championship bound, now I doubt they will even get out of the first round. As for homecourt advantage I think they can forget about that, right now they should look to make sure that they are guaranteed to make the Playoff?s. The Lakers have a good shot at it, Denver can easily bounce back and the Grizzlies are coming together again and then you have the Timerbwolves who are only one game over .500. Teams go through slumps and eventually bounce back. But what the Timerbwolves are showing us is NOT a slump. They?re performance as of late shows that they?re one dysfunctional group that needs a change.
I am amazed that we are wasting time even talking about this thread. I know it was a rumor coming from a suburban Chicago newspaper, but it's just someone filling in something for the paper for the hell of it. There's nothing to see or talk about. KG is NOT GOING ANYWHERE and if players are going to come to Minnesota, they are going to want to play with KG.
I see where this rumour is coming from. Just look at Orlando, they shopped T-Mac and are happy now. But KG is the T-Wolves, T-Mac wasn't the Magic last season und KG is not the problem like T-Mac was but it's similar and I could understand it. KG is in his prime, they need to win a title now or never, his contract is huge and basically they can't sign any big player to help him out and he needs help to win a championship. But this help isn't coming from Sam, Sprewell or Kandi and I doubt anyone wants to trade for Spre or Kandi. If they indeed want to start over again, they should wait until they've got their first round picks back (can anyone tell me when this is going to happen). And definitely not in the middle of a season.
this is all rumors nothing more nuthin less EDITED: For cursing - Shapecity
Well the TWolves just dropped another home game to a subpar team, the Raptors. They are only 1 game above .500 now and in jeopardy of losing the 8th seed to the surging Grizzlies. I'm sure all the rumors about KG are just that, RUMORS. When a team underachieves, people are quick to suggest changes, some are minor and some are major. However, a year ago KG was untouchable and wasn't even considered available for talks. IF the TWolves continue to slide and miss the playoffs, should KG still be considered 'untouchable?'
That would be a terrible trade for the Wolves, I don't like the idea of KG going to a team like the Bulls. If they do decide to trade him they should at least let him go to a team that has the chance to win a championship. But I don't think it will happen as KG has spoken out before saying he wants to finish his career im Minnesota. But you can't keep from wondering what he will say after Cassell and Sprewell are gone.

The only time the Wolves have missed the playoffs with KG was his rookie season. And he is the reason that they made the playoffs all of the other seasons. The entire rest of the team could be traded, but they will never trade KG.
The Bulls may not do this trade with the streak and more importantly, chemistry they're having. They have a clear mission for this season, to make the playoffs and get to that respectability level again. Making the playoffs may be the best thing to happen for the young Bull players, especially both Curry and Chandler, who may finally be able to live up to their status as build-around players now they're happy playing ball in a winning situation.
if i were the bulls i would not participate in the trade becausethere chemistry is great. As i have stated a many of times i would rather have a couple of peopl on my team with small contracts than one person with a big contract regardless of who they are. I mean the bulls have chemistry and youth, period. Personally i dont know what the t-wolves could do at this point. I believe the wolves would need a miracle to get out of this slump. I think they have too many bum contracts on their roster to get it going with other players via trade. I just think they are going to tough it out with the guys they have. I dont see any team trading away anything for sprewell, cassell or olowokandi the bulk of there contract problems.
^I agree with you, no team wants Sprewell or Olowokandi, those two are imho the main problem we have, Sam is okay but we need another PG backup and get rid of Hudson as well. And that's I think where this rumour is coming from, the only other tradeable player we have is Wally, and there is basically only one team who wants him: New York, and in the situation the Wolves are right now, everyone is thinking of a solution and trading KG is at the moment the only other option we have, but this is very unlikely to happen in the middle of a season.
Here is just an idea.... Minnesota trades: PF Kevin Garnett (23.1 ppg, 14.9 rpg, 6.2 apg in 39.4 minutes) SG Fred Hoiberg (4.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.0 apg in 15.1 minutes) Minnesota receives: SF Stacey Augmon (2.9 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 0.3 apg in 12.2 minutes) Andrew DeClercq (No games yet played in 2004/05) PG Steve Francis (21.4 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 6.9 apg in 37.5 minutes) Change in team outlook: -3.5 ppg, -9.3 rpg, and 0.0 apg. Orlando trades: SF Stacey Augmon (2.9 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 0.3 apg in 12.2 minutes) Andrew DeClercq (No games yet played in 2004/05) PG Steve Francis (21.4 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 6.9 apg in 37.5 minutes) Orlando receives: PF Kevin Garnett (23.1 ppg, 14.9 rpg, 6.2 apg in 39.4 minutes) SG Fred Hoiberg (4.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.0 apg in 15.1 minutes) Change in team outlook: +3.5 ppg, +9.3 rpg, and 0.0 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Minnesota and Orlando being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Minnesota and Orlando had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
I doubt the T'Wolves are barely considering this, maybe just as a last resort if anything. The only player I would consider trading KG for would be Duncan, and probably not even him.
HMMMM KG will never be traded for steve franics...or for chris bosh...KG is the best player in the league...if u are going to trade him u need to get like chris bosh, jalen rose, donnell marshell and their number one picks...and thats still not enough...serisously duncan dosnt do as much as KG in the assists...chris bosh might have the skill set to get to KG level some day..but not today!!!

Quote:

serisously duncan dosnt do as much as KG in the assists
And win column... Let's face it; Garnett isn't going anywhere (Sorry Atlanta). This is like saying the Bulls thought about trading Jordan while in his prime. I know KG situation isn't near the same magnitude as if there was rumors swirling Jordan, but there is no way one of the Top 2 players in the league is going to change uni?s anytime soon.
