Kobe Bryant has lobbied for Kidd for the longest time. Even wanted to ship Bynum for Jason. I have to say that, L.A. made a good call in not pulling the trigger on that one. Bynum has been doing great... well at least when he's on the floor. Problem is, Bynum has been injury plagued and I don't expect that to really change. But it's a different scenario now, Kobe might get his wish and he might get it at a lesser cost. Kidd will be a free agent this summer and I expect Kidd to take a pay cut to play for a contender. The Lakers has a mid-level contract to give out, and giving it to Kidd will be a bargain they should take advantage of. A sign and trade for Fisher? I'd go for it. Hang on... with Fisher gone, L.A. will miss a spot up 3? They won't. Jason Kidd (despite the constant Ason remark) has been efficient behind the line and has made a lot of it during crunch time. There are even some out there who would take Kidd's spot up 3 over Terry's. i think it's a no brainer. A trigger happy, shoot first, shoot second, pass third player? Or a pass first, future hall of famer, who is probably the best point guard of his generation? Kidd is 36? How old do you think is Fisher? (He's turning 35 people). Don't even worry about Kidd's defense. He still can hold his ground. Being one of the top defender for a long time, whatever decline that he may show has been magnified. People talk about how Parker, Paul or Deron has ran rings around him. But how many of them talk about how Paul scorched Parker with 38 points or how Williams played against Parker? Jason Kidd, at 36, may have lost a step. But he's still at a level where not many players (younger) are.
We need PG depth, we aren't getting rid of Fish. Farmar maybe, though I'm not sure how much of the MLE we're going to use.
We have Trevor and Lamar to resign. Given the current economy, both will probably have to take paycuts. Honestly if we resign Trevor and Lamar I'd be happy. Kidd would be a bonus I guess, but I don't see it happening.
