Kidd Denies Trade Request … but Talks Underway January 27, 2008, 11:01 pm Jason Kidd said Sunday his agent hadn’t asked the Nets for a trade. “Not to my knowledge,” said Kidd when asked if Jeff Schwartz had made the request. Kidd added he hadn’t spoken with Schwartz recently. “Yeah, I want to be here,” he said. Rod Thorn reportedly has Bruce Ratner’s approval to do a deal and in one scenario would send Kidd to Dallas for the expiring contracts of Devean George, Desagana Diop and Jerry Stackhouse plus picks. Vince Carter is also on the block. I hate this trade! I understand that Stackhouse would bring energy off the bench but Stack is ancient! Diop is a 6 year vet but I think he came outta High School so hes kinda young but he sucks hes like an improved Jason Collins and Devean George just sucks. Plus we don't get a PG back why cant we get Devin Harris instead of George. If this trade goes through we have to pickup either Damon Stoudmire or I would love to pickup Jared Jordan. The only possible positive I can see happening out of this is Stack comming over and providing great energy and veteran leadership and maybe he get Carter going since they are friends from UNC.
Don't like that one at all. The picks part is okay (although, it seems like they'd end up being kind of later in the draft). I'd like to atleast get someone back with some upside and not just expiring contracts.
well, actually, george, stack and diop all expire after this year so that saves a load of cash and if we manage to trade VC as well, we'll have tons to spend on big time FAs. not to mention this is a very deep draft
Sadly, this is the most realistic trade rumor I've seen. Wouldn't surprise me if, after it happened, all three guys were waived. Cap room and picks, guys. That's all that they're gonna get.
Harris is a BYC, so getting him puts the Nets over the lux tax, barring another move to unload salary for next to nothing. If the contracts are expiring ones, then basically the Nets would save 20+ million next season....plus it gets the Nets into lottery territory. Add that pick to whatever the Mavs picks get you....it'll be a young developing team....but VC has to be moved if Kidd is gone.
If this goes through, the Nets are basically Jodie Foster in The Accused. And Cuban is that guy cheering and whooping it up over by the video game.
The Dallas trade would seem decent for Vince, where all I expect are picks and cap room, but not for Jason. I'd like to think that since his value is higher (as quoted by an eastern conference official in that report), we could get some young talent in a package.

If the New Jersey Nets want to finally do something right, they'll cut their losses, take this deal or one that is slightly better, and start the rebuilding process. Carters career is never going to "get going" ever again so i wouldnt worry about Stack doing that. Plus if Kidd goes, Why on earth would they want Carter on this team? All that cap space would be a huge asset. And actually this should be a fairly deep draft. IF you can get rid of both Kidd and Carter, then the only way to go from there is up.
What will the 29th pick overall do for us? I guess the expiring is good but are we going to go out and get a middle aged free agent or do we wait a bit in crappy times?

I think it'll be deep with prospects, with Dorsey, Foster, Pekovic (my guy!), White, Catheles, and Pendergraft in the second round, but none of those guys are franchise-building players, so thats a moot point for us.

I had to D him up once But anyway the draft is deep but its deep with more role players. I know theres all these fantastic freshmen and everything but I dont see too many of them becoming franchise players. BTW if we do end up drafting a PG I think we should wait till the 2nd round and grab Dominic James hes extremely underrated and when D-Wade left Marquette this kid took over the team and did a damn good job IMO.
From a Nets standpoint it looks like rape trade. But then again Nets probably won't be offered a better deal from any other team. All you can hope for is some expiring contracts and a couple of picks. Even if the picks are from Dallas.

They can get far better talent from him.</div> Maybe, but teams are sensing that Thorn is a little bit desperate. He might not admit it, but I feel there is some sense of urgency. You either trade Carter for a true superstar, or you let go of Kidd. The latter would be easier.
