Kings sign free agent Moore
QUOTE

The Kings have signed free-agent forward Mikki Moore, according to his agent, Mark Bartelstein. The deal is for three seasons, at the mid-level exception. The first two seasons and half of the third season are guaranteed, according to Bartelstein. The 7-foot, 223-pounder has played for seven franchises, most recently the New Jersey Nets. He turns 32 in November.Moore went undrafted out of Nebraska in 1998. One day after the Kings came close to sending point guard Mike Bibby to Cleveland in a deal involving Cavaliers forward Drew Gooden, Moore's signing appears to negate that possibility.
LinkIt pretty much seems unlikely that a deal will get done with the Cavaliers and Kings now that they signed Moore. You never know, they might want Moore and Gooden, but I don't think so. I guess they wanna keep Bibby, or find a new team to trade with.
If Moore can get set up by Bibby as he was by Kidd then this was a decent signing. During the playoffs he was knocking down mid-range shots at perfection and was a great hustler with athletecism. He broke out this season and should continue his hot streak into 07-08. However, as Rok said, Mikki Moore needs to be set up. He can't create for himself and it is unlikely he'll be able to do what he did on New Jersey with Bibby at 1 rather than Kidd. I doubt Moore will get intense minutes as well. Kenny Thomas, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Brad Miller, Spencer Hawes, and now Mikki Moore fight for playing time at the 4/5. Moore will be taking a back seat on this team which makes me wonder why the Kings would use full MLE on a guy who won't be getting a solid 25-30 MPG every night. Alot of questions surrounding this signing, sounds like a potential piece in a sign/trade.

Maybe it opens up a trade for one of their bigs but it's weird to hear about Bibby being traded.

It's clear that the Kings have no intention of trading Bibby anymore. Now that Artest and Bibby seem to have mended their previous 'power struggle', two solid bigs were added, and they replaced Musselman with a solid coach in Theus; this squad should be ready to make a run for the playoffs next season. Despite conversations resuming the Kings have no need for Drew Gooden. Bibby will stay in Sacramento.
If they do trade him, I thought they have 48 hours to do so in order to complete a sign-n-trade type of deal?
I wonder if he will be as good as he was playing with new jersey at the end of last year. I kind of doubt he'll have much of an impact and have a feeling the end of last season was a fluke. I mean look at the guys career numbers. He's averaged 5 ppg for his career and I doubt he's going to have a steve nash like late prime. Maybe they'll get lucky and hell give them 10+ ppg though, I dont know but either way this doesn't drastically help the kings but it is kind of a blow to NJ. Now what garbage will start at pf for them?

That's a good amount of cash to be a solid role player. Of course Moore won't be able to contribute like he did in New Jersey where Kidd would set him up for easy mid-range baseline jumpers but it's not like he'll go back to being a scrub. It was a bad move for the Kings but a great move for Mikki Moore.
I don't like this signing at all for the Kings. They needed some interior toughness, defense and rebounding, seeing as how none of Thomas, Abdur-Rahim, Miller and Hayes bring that to the team. Moore is just like them, no toughness, defense or rebounding. 5.1 RPG, in 26 minutes per game with the Nets this past season. Jason Kidd consistently out rebounded him. How many big men are they going to get, that can't play defense, can't rebound, but can hit a mid range shot? They need someone that is going to be tough, and right now they aren't going about getting that person, as Ron Artest is the only toughness on the team.

Mikki was just a backup plan for Krstic (he was out the entire year), but NJ didn't think he'd be that productive, offensively. Moore was a great energy player for NJ and was a big man who could knock down 15 ft jumpshot, as well as running the floor well. He will be missed, but I'm glad NJ didn't really care if he stayed or left. Moore probably won't do sh*t with Sacramento, anyways. He just had a career/contract year, and the Kings were fooled by his regular season/playoff perfomances.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I was never "sold" on him after his good season. He's another classic case of an NBA journeyman who "miraculously improved" in his contract year. This was a stupid signing.
