Already an All-Star, a max-contract cornerstone, an indispensable element to whatever the Jazz are and whoever they will become, Kirilenko also is conspicuously and tantalizingly an unrefined talent. He has the inhuman athleticism to change games, undoubtedly. He lacks the maturity and experience, still, to own them.
"I keep expecting, hoping, all the lights will turn on at the same time so you have a player who becomes not just a good player but a great player," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan assessed frankly.
That's a remarkable ambition, considering all the Russian forward does now. Which is, basically, everything.
Kirilenko leads the Jazz in steals and assists, though he isn't a guard. He's third in the league in blocks, though he isn't a center. He is second on the team in scoring, though he isn't much of a shooter, and second in rebounding, though he isn't an under-the-basket mammoth. </div>
