in a couple of bad mismatches on Friday night, James Kirkland (28-1, 25 KO’s) destroyed little known Dennis Sharpe (17-8-3, 4 KO’s) by a 1st round knockout at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas. Kirkland, who was coming off a 1st round knockout loss of his own, blitzed Sharpe early in the round, knocking him down twice with hard shots.

The fight was then stopped. Kirkland looked less flabby in this fight, but it’s still hard to get much of a gauge at where he’s at because of how poor his opponent was.

In other action on the card hard-hitting Brian Vera (19-5, 12 KO’s) took out Eloy Suarez (11-12-1, 5 KO’s) in the 8th round. Vera landed a huge left hand body shot that put Suarez down. The fight was then halted. The fight was a better one than the Kirkland-Sharpe fight but not by much. It was a bad mismatch just like the Kirkland fight.
