<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Kitna a LionBy GEOFF HOBSONMarch 14, 2006Posted: 11:30 a.m.KitnaJon Kitna has agreed to a deal with the Lions, according to an NFL source Tuesday morning The deal ends Kitna's five-year run in Cincinnati that included the 2003 NFL Comeback Player of the Year award, as well as a postseason touchdown pass. After winning the award, Kitna was demoted in favor of Carson Palmer in the spring of 2004. He expressed his desire to leave and compete for a starting job elsewhere when the Bengals approached him about a contract extension in midseason. At least early on, Kitna is going to sit behind another high No. 1 pick in Joey Harington (No. 3 in 2002), anointed the starter by new head coach Rod Marinelli.Rams quarterback Jamie Martin visited the Bengals on Tuesday and both sides aren’t looking to wait around to make a deal. There was no sign that Kitna was feeling the heat to re-sign in Cincinnati. The Bengals probably weren't ready to give him the money they offered back in October, which figured to be about $1.6 million per year, after not getting involved in the Sage Rosenfels sweepstakes.Kitna's decision came down to the Lions and Jets, and New York may be ready trade for the Redskins’ Patrick Ramsey.Kitna left Detroit without a deal Sunday and the Lions were a team that eventually could have been a landing spot for Martin in a reunion with offensive coordinator Mike Martz. When Martz was the head coach in St. Louis, he relied on Martin’s smarts and grasp of his system to provide backup insurance.“If he doesn’t end up anywhere soon, I can see where Mike would want him up there because no one will understand the offense like Jamie,” said Tom Mills, Martin’s agent. “Jamie would like to get something done as quickly as possible, and it sounds like the Bengals do, too.”The Bengals are also trying to decide what to do with wide receiver Kevin Walter’s offer sheetfrom Houston that includes $2.5 million guaranteed money.WalterWalter signed a four-year contract in Houston that calls for $2.5 million of the $6.4 million to be guaranteed, according to a league source. The Texans no doubt feel the guaranteed money is the poison pill and is going to deter the Bengals from matching the offer by next Monday. He gets $2 million up front and $250,000 each in the last two years of the deal. Not bad for a guy with 30 career catches in three seasons. But the salary cap hit for 2006 is reportedly just $1 million, only about $300,000 more than what they budgeted for Walter, and that could be workable for the Bengals. It’s believed their hit on safety Dexter Jackson was only about $2 million. Since it’s believed they can get Martin at a reasonable rate, Jackson, Walter and Martin could all fit at numbers the Bengals want. What they decide to do on Walter could also be an indication of what they think No. 3 receiver Chris Henry’s availability will be as he faces jail time and a league suspension stemming from gun charges.“If there wasn’t a situation with Chris Henry, this would be a no-brainer; they wouldn’t match,” said Cliff Brady, Walter’s agent. “I’m sure there is a little bit of buzz around the Bengals about what to do with this one.”With the Texans paying Walter No. 3 receiver money and the No. 2 position wide open, the question has to be how the Bengals are going to use him if Henry isn’t available. Walter is one of the team's best special teams players, but if the Bengals project Tab Perry ahead of Walter on the depth chart at No. 3, then Brady doesn’t see a match for what would be a No. 4 receiver.“Kevin just wants an opportunity to go catch some balls,” Brady said. “He loves it in Cincinnati, but they’ve got a lot of receivers.”One thing is certain. Look for the Bengals to take up a good portion of this week deciding. They have until next Monday per league rules. The cap hit is carried by Houston until then. If there is no match, the Texans give the Bengals a seventh-rounder.According to reports, the Bengals worked out quarterback Chris Redman on Monday. Redman, the former third-round pick of the Ravens out of Louisville, has been beset by injuries and is trying to get back into the NFL at age 28.</div>http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5132<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Lions | Kitna contract updateTue, 14 Mar 2006 10:55:05 -0800Updating previous reports, ESPN.com's John Clayton reports Detroit Lions QB Jon Kitna will likely receive a signing bonus in the $3 million to $4 million range.</div>
Dude this is the happiest day of my life!!! Kitna and we reupped Kalimba!! I need to go get some beer to celebrate .
Garcia isnt even on the team just to let u know. But i think they will go wit McCown because he is a better QB when he has good WR like the Card, so he will do alright.
Everyone seems to be forgetting that the Qb arguement is a moot point without the meat up front to protect. I don't care who is under center, they are not going to be good lying on their back.
With Harrington gone, he will get the start! lol. i guess it was smart for him 2 do this since he wasn't starting with CIN and he comes here for a starting job.
