Kmart's Agent: "Kenyon probably done with the Nets"

Agent tells News: Kenyon probably done with Nets

    By OHM YOUNGMISUK

Kenyon Martin?s agent, Brian Dyke, said yesterday that the All-Star power forward will ?very likely? not be back with the Nets after receiving offers from Denver and Atlanta.

?I don?t think it?s likely he?ll come back to the Nets,? Dyke told the Daily News after he talked to Nets CEO Rod Thorn earlier in the day.

Dyke would not elaborate on why Martin, who has been adamant about his desire to remain in New Jersey, likely has played his last game for the Nets. However, Martin has expressed concern about how committed Brooklyn developer and new Nets owner Bruce Ratner is to winning.

The Nuggets and Hawks, both of whom met with Martin this past week, are believed to be offering the forward a six-year deal worth close to $85 million. Dyke says the restricted free agent will agree to a deal with one of the teams today. The Nuggets are considered to be the frontrunners.

that sucks cause i really wanted him to stay but it is true to be concearned about were this team is going becase of the owner being cheap but lets see if the nets match the offer if they do he will be a net then but if he was really wanting leave then i would do a sign and trade to get rid of him cause i dont want player playing for the nets whossays he wants to stay but then goes around and says its unlikely he will stay. get out then.

Sucks for the Nets. The only positive that comes out of this is that it's pretty much a lock that they'll be able to resign RJ come next offseason since they're probably not going to match the offers. But, yea, not good for the Nets. They lose a great young player and a person who was a huge part of their 2 Finals appearances.

This is the sadest news I have heard since the 3-way deal to trade Sam away in 98'-99. It does pretty much seem like Ratner was BSing about he willing to do anything to keep K-Mart.

The 1st sign I had was earlier tonight on Espn when I heard the Hawks had/we be acquired Al Harrington. Something tells me that Rod Thorn told them to make that move, now the Nets are probably going to match the Hawks offer. And send him to ATL in a sign & trade deal, which would give us Al Harrington & a few other parts. Hawks probably came up with this deal to keep Denver out of the picture. And the Nets ok'd it to make sure they get something in return for the departure of Martin.

So it wouldnt shock me if Al Harrington is a Net next season, but I am praying my theory is totally wrong & K-Mart stays where he belongs. This Nets group without Kenyon just doesnt seem right under any situation.

wow.this news total blows. this franchise can never catch a break. losing for all the years, coming 2wins away from winning a title then dismantling a championship team. maybe its the curse of dr.j.

i still think we can keep kenyon. hopefully jason and rich can talk to him and show that no matter what ratner does that with them 3 they can win a title. whoever we get will set us back. kmart is the whole package. has offense, defense and is a leader. harrington is a nice young player, but doesnt give us as much as kmart gives us. if we lose kmart, we are screwed inside. he was our only deep threat. we better get some good jump shooters b/c w/o kenyon we are going to be last in rebounding. this is extremely sad news, it isnt official and anything can happen because i believe the nets havent had thier meeting with him, but im sure bruce ratner is throwing a party now that we won't have to spend money on kmart. thx commish for letting this go down when there was a group too buy the nets and keep them in nj and were comitted to winning.

there are reports that denver won't offer kmart a max contract if they offer him anything at all b/c they would fear the nets not making a decision till 15days after kmart possibly signs an offer sheet and if they had to wait 15days then thier money would be tied up, plus ppl in denver dont see kenyon as a max player. so we can hope that denver offers kmart less than max, then if kmart signs thier offer sheet we could easily match that instead of matching the max. either way, we should match.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I don't have any reason to doubt Mr. Ratner's commitment to maintaining a competitive team," Thorn said. "He's been very forthright both publicly and privately about wanting to build this team."</div>
The Star-Ledger that makes me still feel confident. i know all the reports today seem to be negative but it is not official. kenyon hasnt met with the nets yet so he is just saying things based on his visit to atlanta and not talking to rod/ed and maybe even ratner himself. if rod has confidence we are going to keep him, then im still confident. or maybe rod is trying to make ratner look good so ratner will give him a contract extention.
