<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Although he may not have come armed with the money that other general managers brought to the free-agent table, the Knicks' Scott Layden did pick up the telephone. An N.B.A. official said the Knicks' first choice among those who became free to negotiate at 12:01 a.m. yesterday was Rasho Nesterovic, the 7-foot unrestricted free agent who played with the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. "The talks were very substantive," Bill Duffy, the agent for Nesterovic, said yesterday of his talks with Layden. "They've been very forthright in their interest in him. They think he can emerge as one of the top centers in the East, maybe the top center in the East." Layden also put in calls to Mark Bartlestein, who represents Indiana center Brad Miller and New Orleans forward P. J. Brown, both of whom are unlikely to play at the Garden. Nesterovic, 27, started every game but five during the last two seasons. This past season, he recorded career bests in scoring (11.2 points) and blocked shots (1.51), and matched his career high of 6.5 rebounds a game. He ranked fifth in the N.B.A.. in field-goal shooting (52.5 percent) and was 19th in blocked shots. Duffy said that Nesterovic was home in Slovenia and was unlikely to visit teams who were interested in him, and that he had already narrowed his choice to four teams. One league official confirmed that the teams include the Knicks, San Antonio and Minnesota. Unless the Knicks can convince the Timberwolves to work out a sign-and-trade deal, the most they can offer Nesterovic is the $4.9 million mid-level salary-cap exception. Some teams are believed to be willing to top that, and Minnesota might try to keep him. "He has a fondness for New York,'' Duffy said. "He likes the cultural diversity. Europeans appreciate that. He's comfortable with that environment. It's not a money choice. At our behest, he's done his research throughout the year on teams, on personnel, and he has a keen understanding. He's a very intelligent guy and during the course of the last year he knew he'd be in this position and considered the logistics." Another client of Duffy's who has a fondness for New York is San Antonio point guard Speedy Claxton, who went to high school in Queens and who is searching for a starting job. One general manager said the Knicks were still shopping their roster, but as of now the team is overloaded at the point. Charlie Ward could be bought out of his contract for $2 million. </div> If Knicks sign rasho and speedy then they are in the playoffs next season IMO..without a doubt...along with a heathly dice..they could be really dangerous.
yea no surprise... I think you mentioned he was house huntin down in NY... sad to see him go... maybe Marc Jackson could step up in be somewhat of a force...

never say never. there are 3 ways for this to happen. 1. shaq retires 2. kg signs for whatever we can offer him 3. jerry buss says screw the luxury tax and gives kg whatever he wants
i am 90% sure rasho will sign with the knicks but speedy its a toss up, i kidd signs with SA speedy will go elsewhere
