Knighthawks Activate Fines and Ruys

    The Rochester Knighthawks activated defenseman/transition man Kevin Fines and rookie transition man Josh Ruys for tonight's 7:30 p.m. game against the East Division rival Buffalo Bandits on Saturday, April 23rd at HSBC Arena. In related moves, the Knighthawks placed Joel McCready on the hold out list and Scott Ditzell on the physically unable to perform list. All four moves are pending league approval.

    The game will be broadcast live on The Zone 94.1 FM and www.thezone941.com. The contest will also be televised nationally on VERSUS on Sunday, May 24th at 4:00 p.m.

    Fines enters his seventh season in the NLL in 2011 and second in Rochester. In 2010, the defenseman/transition player was named the Knighthawks' Unsung Hero. The Sarnia, Ontario, native returns to Rochester, where he played last season, after being acquired in 2009 from the Minnesota Swarm. In his career, he has also played for teams in Chicago, Toronto and San Jose. This summer, he was a member of Major Series Lacrosse's Peterborough Lakers and won the Mann Cup. Fines won a Minto Cup with the Burnaby Lakers in 2002.

    Ruys made his pro debut on January 15th in the Knighthawks' home opener against the Toronto Rock. Five days later, he was placed on the physically unable to perform list. The Oakville, Ontario, native was a second-round pick (12th overall) in the 2010 NLL Entry Draft. The 20 year old signed a two-year deal with the Knighthawks on October 26, 2010. This summer, he played for the Burlington Chiefs in the Junior "A" circuit. He notched his be at season in 2009, capturing career-high in goals (15), points (21) and games played (16). In two seasons with the Chiefs, Ruys compiled 34 points (20+14) in 29 games. He also tallied 34 points (20+14) in 18 career playoff contests.

    The Knighthawks will open the Champion's Cup Playoffs on Sunday, May 1st against the Toronto Rock. The 3:30 p.m. contest at the Air Canada Centre marks the seventh time these two longtime combatants have met in the postseason. The Rock own a 4-2 record against Rochester and are perfect in Toronto with a 3-0 mark. The Knighthawks, however, won the last meeting on April 20, 2007 en route to their second championship. The game will be broadcast live on The Zone 94.1 FM and www.thezone941.com. The contest will also be carried on TSN2 and the NLL Network.
